I had the pleasure of driving up 1st ave this afternoon. Let me tell you what a treat this new traffic pattern is, especially with construction blocking 1 1/2 of the 3 available lanes, and assholes making left turns from the middle, cabs trying to weave back and forth, and the obstacles created by the floating parking lane and the concrete islands in the middle of the street.
Nice job King Bloomie. If you've got much Geico stock, I'd suggest you sell.
For 100 years when you step off the sidewalk you were stepping into a parking lane. Now, without significant notice, the city has changed the streetscape so you are stepping directly into a traffic lane. I do not think it is reasonable to expect literally generations of behavior and habit will change overnight. In England (and obviously Bloomie wants NYC to be like London) they have warnings painted on the sidewalk, so Herr Reichmsmarshall Bloomie, why not here?

So when does Emperor Boombox ban these street pipes from smoking in public?
