A new suitor for 269 E. Houston St.

There's a potential bar/restaurant in the works for 269 E. Houston St., the building at Suffolk with nine different for rent/sale signs.

This applicant is on the August CB3/SLA committee docket:

• Lower East Side NY Bistro Corp, 269 E Houston St (op)

Dunno anything about it just yet... though the word "bistro" makes it seem as if it will be a more upscale tenant than in past years.

As for recent history here... The Local 269 never reopened last fall after a flood apparently KO'd much of the live music venue's equipment. The space was previously home to Meow Mix and Vasmay Lounge. The Local opened in February 2009.

Applicants who were previously involved with the Apocalypse Lounge (2004-2007) on East Third Street apparently had designs on a new bar here. However, the applicants apparently never appeared before the CB3/SLA committee back in March, according to the CB3 meeting record.

We'll have more on the August CB3/SLA meeting later... the meeting is set for Aug. 19 at 6:30 pm.

The Local 269 on East Houston at Suffolk never reopened last fall after a flood apparently KO'd much of the live music venue's equipment.

Applicants who were previously involved with the Apocalypse Lounge (2004-2007) on East Third Street between Avenue A and Avenue B apparently had designs on a new bar here. However, the applicants apparently never appeared before the CB3/SLA committee back in March, according to the CB3 meeting record.

So now the space is back in play. An EVG reader points us to this Craigslist post:

New venture aiming to take over former Local 269 space on East Houston

An applicant is looking to take over the Local 269, the live music venue that never reopened after an apparent flood last September.

There's a little more information about the proposed venture now on the CB3 website. (PDF is here.)

According to the paperwork, the applicants are looking to open an unnamed bar with proposed hours of noon-2 a.m. Monday-Wednesday; noon-4 a.m. Thursday-Sunday.

Unlike the Local 269, there won't be any live music at this new bar. There will be a jukebox, though.

There's food mentioned. The menu attached to the paperwork is very generic — chicken wings, Buffalo wings, sliders, hot dog, fries, etc. (However ordinary, perhaps it's nice not to have yet another place featuring, say, a pickling station or serving bacon-infused maple bacon with burnt ends.)

Where were we?

The paperwork notes that the applicants were previously involved with the Apocalypse Lounge (2004-2007) on East Third Street between Avenue A and Avenue B.

Well, we have no memory of this place. Here was New York magazine's write-up on it:

One gets the sense that the Apocalypse Lounge is meant to shock and astonish, but the whole thing comes off as more confused punk theme park than East Village "café artistes." Is it a dive bar, a college bar, or a trendy downtown club? Like some acid-inspired art project gone awry, floors are splattered with colorful paint and walls plastered with Polaroids, sparkles, and doll's heads — apparently there's even a Basquiat stuck somewhere in the muck ... the bar drew opening hype, but Page Six press can't save it from seeming a decade or two off: While the East Village is home to plenty of artists, these days they're neither starving nor hanging out at open-mike nights.

Meanwhile, the whole building here remains on the market. The owners are seeking proposals.

Is the Living Room moving to East Second Street?

The folks at CB3 just sent out the March SLA committee docket. We'll take a more thorough look at it later... Quickly, a few interesting items to note:

An unknown applicant is looking to take over the Local 269, the live music venue that never reopened after an apparent flood last September.

• The Living Room (ACP Project), 173 E 2nd St (op)

Not sure what to make of this at the moment. The Living Room, a favorite of the acoustic-music set over on Ludlow Street, will be leaving their home of 10 years at the end of April due to a huge rent hike.

The owners recently held a successful fundraising campaign to help move to an undisclosed new home. Perhaps this is it?

As we reported last September, Klean & Kleaner, the laundromat on East Second Street between Avenue A and Avenue B, was on the market for use as a bar or restaurant.

• Heart N Soul (Mama Bar LLC), 200 E 3rd St (wb)

This is the former Mama's space... from the owner of Mama's Bar next door (no relation).

Oh, and yes — Soho House plans to expand and open a location on Ludlow Street. Good night.

Flooding KOs the Local 269 for now

Several readers let us know that The Local 269, the nice little live music venue on East Houston and Suffolk, is temporarily closed.

A band playing at 269 later next week noted on Facebook that their show "has been canceled due to a flood at Local 269 that destroyed their sound system."

We called the 269 for more information, but the number isn't in service now. And there aren't any messages about the flood on their website or Facebook page. Additionally, they didn't respond to emails asking for more information.

Last week, BoweryBoogie reported that 269 E. Houston, the six-story apartment building where the Local lives, is for sale. Current asking price is $9.95 million. The Massey Knakal listing notes that the commercial unit is leased out through December 2013.

So, when did this pop up...? I swear it wasn't here Friday...The Local 269 was open for business last night at Houston and Suffolk on the LES (the bar's address is 269 Houston)...enticing 2-for-1 happy hour sign on the sidewalk...As enticing as this all was, I didn't have time to stop in and check it out...Another day. Or night.
