Asphalt jungle: New pathways for the Tompkins Square Park field house

Photos by Steven

While the reconstruction of the Tompkins Square Park field house is complete (100% complete, per the Parks website)... there is still work to be done around the structure.

This morning, workers arrived to replace the pavement surrounding the field house, a project that one of the crew members said would take two weeks to complete. (And a task made more manageable without the construction trailer in the way.)
During this time, lobs might be more challenging to maneuver at the ping-pong table...
Also... at some point, the city should consider repaving all the pathways in the Park...

Would be nice to have stone walkways not asphalt.

Agree!

Would be nice to have narrower walkways that discourage driving vehicles inside the park, just like in the wealthier neighborhoods parks (Washington sq Park, Madison Sq Park)

All of us who travel on wheels say "absolutely not" to stone walkways!

Stone would look great but the cost for the materials, excavation, prep and installation would be at least 10x more than asphalt.

Stone pathways are a challenge for people like me with mobility issues and need a walker or, at times, a wheelchair to get around

The entire stretch of road from Ave A to B is a disaster and a serious hazard. The entire length needs to be repaired. Typical lack of good planning!
