Revisiting a great song. The video here is for "Fools Gold" by the Manchester-based Stone Roses, released in the U.S. in 1990, and one of the great indie anthems.
The band's bassist, Gary "Mani" Mounfield, died yesterday at the age of 63.
RIP, Mani.

Surely a trip to Fools Gold for a memorial pint is on the cards for all EV Mancs?
I still remember "Elephant Stone" coming over the speakers at some Halloween party at Beauty Bar in the mid-2000s when I was dressed up as Brian Eno and my friend was Debbie Harry, and no one knew who we were; us jumping on the sofa. I hate that LES Gen Z will probably ape the outfits of Madchester without ever listening to Stone Roses or Happy Mondays, or hearing their songs in bars and clubs (even 10/20/30 years later). That ethos of cultured euphoria-chasing that was grounded in history and literature and mythology...club drugs mixed with theology and gospel and civil rights and house.
One of my fave of all time!!! Thank you
