Page Six has the following news today (via Eater):
AndrĂ© Balazs is turning the Cooper Square Hotel into The Standard East Village. Sources say the high-flying hotelier’s deal to buy the beleaguered East Fifth Street Cooper Square gem will close today. Sources added that, under Balazs and his partners, the 105-room hotel's public spaces will be reconfigured, its rooms refurbished and its restaurants overhauled over the course of the next year. The property will be The Standard's more "intimate and residential" location than its boisterous site straddling the High Line...
And, in an exclusive, we have obtained The Standard's plans for renovations right here... Not yet confirmed for authenticity...

will people do the nasty in the windows above the bowery?
@BB
Let's hope! Will keep us in posts for a good few weeks! And we've been lacking in full frontal nudity of late.
I predict the Standard East will be a fail because the kind of people who like staying at a hotel like the Standard are not going to like the street people, the rats, the garbage, the drunk college students--all the stuff that comes with the East Village.
The Standard calls its new design "plebe"? Typical condescending nonsense!
There are only so many people looking to rent $600 a nite rooms
The Plebe Round Front Complete Toilet looks like one finely made toilet. A royal flush indeed!
The Standard is so hip. Their logo is the words "The Standard", only printed upside down!
Overhaul the restaurant again? Is that place trying to set a record of some kind? The Tribble never had a chance.
2 or 3 years and the whole thing will be back in bankruptcy again. Face the facts, until that place is a dorm, it has no chance of sustaining itself.
@Stedman - "people who like staying at a hotel like the Standard are not going to like the street people, the rats, the garbage, the drunk college students"
And this is different from the Meat Packing district, how?
I'm just gonna wait until they put up an enormous gate like the one for 52E4 - it looks straight outta Jurassic Park. gotta keep out the rifraff though.
I'm still holding out for a moat here. Need something to keep out the commoners.
We just need one really good wind storm...
"I'm still holding out for a moat here."
Combine that with Herman Cain’s electric fence and we have a winner.
