An award-winning news site covering the East Village of NYC
the fascist brainwashing campaign continues. :D
Nothing says "fascism" like capitalism, I always say! Wait, but this means people are riding bikes! Fascists!
Alas, at least in midtown, a lot of the docks are empty because they aren't working. Apparently Citibike is blaming the rain. Which was obviously entirely unexpected.
Of course the bike stations are empty in the East Village because the bikes we all stolen. Hold onto your wallets!
13th and A and 14th and B stations were not working Saturday night. Power and software problems apparently according to the customer service rep. Still lots of kinks in the system and I've had to call Citibike several times now when I don't get the green light indicating the bike is checked in to make sure I don't get overtime charges. They need to fix the system quickly.
35,000 annual members plus 3-4,000 day passes equals not enough bikes. (I believe they started with 6,000.) Sounds like it is more popular than they expected. They need more bikes....(I'm liking grabbing a bike on the days/times I don't want to use my own.)
I watched three people unsuccessfully attempt to dock their bikes in the 13th and A rack Saturday night. I'm a fan of the system, but that made me skeptical.
The CitiBike stations are blacking out one by one since they use solar power and many of the batteries are dying before they can recharge. Apparently someone didn't realize when placing the stations that they need to get enough sunlight in order to recharge. Also the rental company wrote its own software after a legal dispute with another company who wrote the original software that actually works in places like Boston. This weekend I saw people at 3 stations who couldn't get the bikes I or out. One blonde was having such a big fit her hair almost turned grey. Now we are stuck with a crapfest of bad software and blacked out stations, or as Mayor Bloomberg calls it, progress. As a wise man once said, nothing fails quite as spectacularly as success.
I can just see it now Con Ed will be asked to provide free power to the stations
