The East Village outpost of Astoria favorite Taverna Kyclades opened for business last week at 228 First Ave. By most accounts, people are very happy to have the chance to eat their Greek fare in the neighborhood.
However, some neighbors here between East 13th Street and East 14th Street are already grumbling about the restaurant's trash.
Here is one claim by an affected party, who sent along the photos:
"They dump really stinky fish trash not in front of their restaurant but outside of neighboring business properties and next door to the local street fruit market seller ... causing horrible stenches."
Neighbors have called 311 to complain, though it is not clear if they have reached out directly to restaurant management to resolve the issue.

I have walked by this, and it is not appetizing. Beyond the garbage, this is not a great location for a restaurant. I couldn't sit there and relax.
Ate there last weekend, after a merely so-so meal I asked for coffee and was informed that they would not be serving it. The maitre'd said (I assume in jest) "We don't believe in coffee", and I thought "Right, because what you believe in is rapid table turnover and wanting to hustle clients out so new ones can come in". I won't be going back.
Thought the heavy stench of old fish was coming from the subway, but clearly was wrong. Sh*t is absolutely vile.
I came out of the subway on 1st and 14th the other night, and the smell from this place hit me like a ton of bricks. It was really, really, really bad. I feel bad for the people who live upstairs.
Disgusting. NYC must finally do something about the mountains of trash on the sidewalks. I've never experienced anything like this in any city. NYC makes even Philadelphia feel like the archetype of cleanliness.

Relax, everyone. This garbage juice is sourced from free-range busboys, so you can enjoy its stench guilt-free.
Try a 311 phone marathon -- eventually they will have a mountain of sanitation write ups and things will change (i.e., they will have to hire a private carting service, wink, wink, nod, nod.)
