Oaxaca Taqueria is 'closed for renovations' on East 7th Street

Paper is up in the windows now at the taco shop at 125 E. Seventh St. between Avenue A and First Avenue… a note on the door points to renovations…

A tipster tells us that Oaxaca won't reopen here, that the space had quietly been on the rental market.

Oaxaca moved here from Extra Place last fall. With the foot traffic, you'd think that this was a much better spot for a quick-serve restaurant than the dead and dead-end Extra Place. However, there are so many (too many?) taco choices now in the neighborhood … someone isn't going to make it…

Gah! I eat here twice a week, at least.

Butter Lane bakery broke its space into two, and Oaxaca took half. This was a loser for both businesses -- Oaxaca closed, and Butter Lane is uncomfortably small now. BTW I am not a "cupcaker" and B.L. is the only cupcakerie I support. 'Cause it's delish. But now v. uncomfortable to shop there -- when you stand at the counter, people coming in the door bump into you. B.L. should take back the other side from tacoland.

It's a bad location. No one knew they were there. I walked by a million times not realizing they were there

I didn't try Oaxaca yet and have no opinion on them personally but am in the EV and just want to say to prospective businesses in the neighborhood - there IS such a thing as too much food. Enough already. We can only eat so much per day. How about some actual service shops? That would be refreshing, thanks.
