The PokéSpot opens today on 4th Avenue

The PokéSpot, serving the increasingly popular (in NYC) Hawaiian raw-fish salad, opens to the public today on Fourth Avenue and 12th Street, the corner space that previously housed the Subway (sandwich shop) until late January.

You can find their menu here.

Or here...

Signage talk: Are those letters midnight blue and not black? If so, that is very very nice, I must say. The cartoon wombat (it is a wombat, right?) sort of gives me the heebie-jeebies but that's probably just me. Do wombats eat raw tuna and crab guacamole?

I think that is an otter....
So glad to have another subway bite the dust...

@7:31 AM: I believe wombats are woodland creatures so they don't eat a lot of seafood. Next question.

Not sure if it's worth trying...I mean,in HI the fish comes fresh off the boat but in NYC, at $12 a bowl average and to make the exorbitant rent, man, I don't know if it's not frozen farmed fish with a side order of radiation.

What's the difference between poke and ceviche?

I visited yesterday on their soft opening. The wait was long, but the space was clean and minimal, which I immediately enjoyed. The actual food itself is fresh, light, and delicious. The service too was professional and efficient. I ordered the salmon citrus with zucchini noodles and ponzu sauce. No rice or dairy or anything fried. It was healthy, low fat and flavorful. I suggest giving them a try sometime. From the look of it, they are going to be a huge hit, which I am happy for.

Looks like you're going to get a good poke in the wallet if you go.

Ceviche is latin, poke is hawaiian.
