Unfortunately, the tree was already lit up at the start of the ceremonies at 4 ... and they missed the bottom portion of the tree. Perfect!
Regardless, there was a nice-sized crowd there and we all enjoyed being together after a year off from the ceremony... look for more crowd shots tomorrow...

Meanwhile, this afternoon, dozens of trees were chainsawed a few blocks away today in East River Park- despite a Temporary Restraining Order, issued by the NYS Appeals Court, against this work. Hard to get into the holiday spirit when our neighborhood's biggest park is being destroyed. Where are our pols who showed up to this? Why aren't you lending your voices and power to stop this illegal destruction of our park?
The more messed up the better! I was cracking up the whole time. It is Tompkins after all. Next time more sinkholes please.
Poor little half-lit tree, we love you anyway.
as the great thomas hanks once remareked: "it's phallic, no?"
Still love this tree
thanks to dollar-bill blasé for the destruction of mature, resilient trees - his denial of the judicial decree once again proves how corrupt he is -- unconscionable action!
This weekend the parks department also forgot to open up all three of the Tompkins playgrounds on Saturday. So able bodied parents were jumping the fences and tossing their kiddos and strollers in. They were still locked when we stopped by again at noon!
Even though the NYC Parks Dept is LAME, glad the ceremony went down.
well, tonight thank god it's them instead of you
It looks like the “Charlie Brown”🌲 tree all grown up!🤣😍🌲
This is the greatest tree since Charlie Brown’s 😆🎄
(A TREE… not a Festivus pole! hint hint)
On a related note it seems the organizers responsible for the raffle drawing might have considered gift certificates for local merchants rather then gift cards to Gap. That was embarrassing, off brand, tin ear to local history, etc. Best, JG
