99¢ Pizza debuted last week at 418 E. 14th St. just east of First Avenue. (First reported here.)
Despite the name of the establishment, a cheese slice will cost a penny more — $1. And if you want to get fancy and add, say, pepperoni, then the price goes up to $2.50.
Here's a look at some of their combo specials...
EVG reader Edmund John Dunn tried two slices: "Not bad, IMO, better than the average for a 99-cent [or a $1!] slice."
The opening comes as the 99¢ Pizza shop at 246 E. 14th St. between Second Avenue and Third Avenue lowered the price of a slice from $1.50 to 99 cents as the cheap slice war heats up.

Wasn't there a pizza shop (I think called Angelo's) in that same spot back in the 60's? I recall a barber shop and a pizza shop next door to each other, but I can remember which store was where.
Funny that 2 Bros decision to increase their price to 1.50 had made local and national headlines, as a "the skies are falling" sign of inflation, the same week that these 2 parlors went with their 99 cents. Classic lamestream media...

Correct. Angelo's was right next to the Immaculate Conception courtyard gate, the barber shop, Andrews, was just east of Angelo's. Eventually Angelo's moved his pizza shop further east on 14th between A and 1st, closer to Ave A. Both places were rights of passage for us Immaculate Conception School alumni.

Note that the pizza slice here is slightly smaller than the standard NYC pizza slice - as if it were sliced from a smaller diameter pie than the standard NYC pie. E.g., if the 'standard' NYC whole pizza pie is 18" in diameter, my guess is that this shop's whole pizza pie is 16" in diameter.
