NYC has activated its Heat Emergency Plan for the first time this year as NYC and other parts of the northeast may see record-setting temps in the days ahead as the heat index will top 100°F.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather advisory for the area.
Per the city:🌞Did you know a heat wave is defined as 3 or more consecutive days of 90°F or higher. (heat index not factored in).

High heat is a silent killer, posing a disproportionate threat to our most vulnerable residents: adults aged 60 and older, young children, and those with pre-existing health conditions like heart disease, diabetes, mental health conditions, or cognitive impairment. Air conditioning is the best way to stay safe and healthy when it is hot outside, but some people at risk of heat illness do not have or do not turn on an air conditioner.
The city has a map of outdoor cooling options (including spray showers and drinking fountains) at Cool It! NYC and a Cool Options map. (The cooling centers are open as of today.)
There are just a few local cooling center options, including (the Tompkins Square and Ottendorfer library branches are also options)...

Dreadful days like this make me long for autumn and winter. Never been a fan of summer whatsoever. I will be in a serious, committed relationship with my windmill air conditioner for the week. Hope others will find similar respite. Stay cool kiddos.
I will stop by Key Food on A later this afternoon and leisurely pick up a few items. It usually feels about 48 degrees in there.

Up until yesterday, my windmill A/C was incredible, then out of nowhere, it stopped working. Thankfully, I have a two year extended warranty. I am awaiting word from Clyde, which is a third party vendor to intervene and ether repair or replace it. This could have not happened at more of an inopportune time. Hopefully, it won't be too long. I am dying here. Overall, I'd say they are a great company with a solid product. They are expensive, but worth the investment having received numerous accolades and awards. Very sleek aesthetic.

Oh no @ Mark 12:35! I hope you get it fixed or replaced ASAP. Right now, we are still rocking with an older noisy unit that we picked up in the trash on St. Mark's Place about three years ago, which lasted two years longer than the one we bought new. I was so happy that it actually worked after lugging it up three flights. I wish you cooler days! Blocking all the light helps, but it's like cave dwelling.
