The Palidium, which closed in 1997, was on 14th Street near Irving Place... today the space is NYU's Paladium Hall.
Revisit the interior here. Discover more history here via Cinema Treasures.
The photographs in the linked website are of the Palladium's later life as a nightclub, designed in 1985 by Arata Isozaki. When the Clash played in 1979 (I was there!) it was a traditional theater (movie theater turned concert venue). As a side note, the article that you linked to didn't even mention that the renovation to a nightclub was the first US work of the future Pritzker Prize winning architect. Also, the Palladium nightclub was truly fabulous!
