As of today, the windows are covered and the Starbucks signage has been removed.
No "For Rent" sign is up at the prime corner space yet.
The outpost opened in August 2017, arriving to some neighborhood opposition — including a "Not Another Starbucks" rally.
For now, the waiting game begins for what's next...

The added bonus is no more PSA4 illegally blocking the bike lane in front every morning when they wish to get their coffee fix

How about a cupcake shop? Since Butter Lane closed, hard to find really good cupcakes in the E.V. I have to go all the way to Molly's Cupcakes in the West Village for moist, buttercream frosted cupcakes.
There's a McDonald's at 6th street and 1st avenue; they couldn't get closer if they put them in the same building!
Butter Lane was top notch. How's Oasis Cafe? I love many of their pastries.

It has to be a business that can pay that lease and is constant revenue generating to pay overhead and other expenses... Sorry but most of the ones most peopleiving in EV "want" most likely doesnt make any economic sense for the business...
What makes sense in regards to paying that lease (not saying it would generate revenue easy)
1. Bank
2. Fast food/drink service (burgers, pizzas, tacos)
3. Bar/Wine place hangout (seeing how that whole block has turned)
The reality of opening a business in Manhattan... Not easy and a huge stress: headache
Please, not another cupcake shop or bakery. Someone who lives in the building says it might become a burger king. good grief.

For cupcakes…Sugar Sweet Sunshine Bakery (they used to be on Rivington but moved the main shop to Grand a few years ago and they’ve got a stand inside Essex Market too).

I know empty storefronts are not good and who knows what will move in -- but I am delighted that Starbucks is finally gone from this corner!

This is the only correct option. I can still taste that Nino's slice. And while I have deep love and much respect for Strombol', Nino's was superior.

We're losing our large community coffee houses with bathrooms. 2 Beans. 2 Starbucks.
When B&N made their announcement for the new bookstore... they said no coffee. So unless they changed their mind.... I think it would be great for the hood... Books & Brew.
This is most likely going to sit empty for a while. The closed 250 stores but not necessarily in alignment with the end of their existing leases. So, they may still be being rent for the foreseeable future. Most of the stores that closed in September 2025 are still vacant (15th/3rd, 28th/3rd, 19th/PAS, etc) as is the Astor Place location that closed over two years ago.
