Developing story! Someone dares enter the haunted house on East 13th Street

Last month, we had that great discussion on the possibly haunted and definitely abandoned building at 222 E. 13th St. The building has been sealed up for years.... until now....

EV Grieve reader Adam walked by minutes ago... and the door is open!

A Building sidewalk shed sits and waits

Late last summer, workers erected a sidewalk shed outside the World Famous A Building on 13th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue... Per the DOB, there's a permit for the shed "for emergency repair to balconies."

Can't be that much of an emergency... we have yet to see any work take place on the balconies... as a walk by the other morning suggests...

That large suitcase left by the Mystery Lot

The site of an oversized suitcase here in front of the Mystery Lot on 13th Street the other day left me a little uneasy....

Considering the grisly discoveries in luggage here in the past. I took a closer look... just a stash of damp, moldy clothes...

Also, during the weekend, someone in need put together a temporary shelter here...

Buy a lot, get a couch?

Perhaps the owner of this stalled lot on 13th Street near Avenue B is sweetening the deal by throwing in some old couches ...

How now brown, uh, wall?

And now Verizon has repainted the wall along 13th Street at Second Avenue for the umpteenth time in the last few months....

Any bets how long before it's tagged again?

A Building sidewalk shed ushers in new crisis: How will residents hail a cab?

Per Tuesday's post, workers began erecting a sidewalk shed in front of the two-year-old pool-party-palace the A Building on East 13th Street... Shed up! The DOB issued the work permit yesterday for...

... "emergency repair to balconies." (The Real Deal reported on some of the problems with the building back in April.)

Meanwhile, speaking of emergencies...

... the sidewalk shed now obstructs one of the building's many amenities....

... the light-up sign for hailing taxis....

[top image via Curbed]

Or maybe the sign had to be removed. Well, at least the sidewalk shed will keep residents out of the elements while waiting for a cab.

The latest A Building amenity: sidewalk shed

Over at the A Building on 13th Street, workers are currently erecting a sidewalk shed outside the world-famous, pool-party palace...

There's doesn't appear to be anything on file with the DOB that might explain the need for the sidewalk shed... However, there are a handful of recent complaints on file with the DOB:

FAILURE TO MAINTAIN BALCONIES THROUGH-OUT BUILDING

And!

FACADE - DEFECTIVE/CRACKING

Perhaps workers are ready to fix some of the "massive" problems found at the building, as The Real Deal reported earlier this year... Per The Real Deal's Sarah Ryley:

Beneath the two-year-old building's reputation for hosting raucous rooftop pool parties lies a reality worse than the most killer hangover -- flooding, crumbling balconies, alleged mismanagement of the condo board's funds and two unresponsive developers who have left owners banging their heads against mold-ridden walls, claim several residents who forwarded dozens of documents detailing these issues to The Real Deal.

The mystery of the mysterious pylons in the Mystery Lot

Even the slightest activity in the Mystery Lot here on 13th Street always prompts the fear... So, now, what to think of these pylons....

Jellyfish invasion on 13th Street

A store called Jellyfish New York is opening on 13th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue...

...based on the sign, I'd say (duh!) that it's some kind of clothing shop for kids... another sign said that the store was opening in August

Verizon is going to blow the budget on brown paint

On Thursday, we noted a Verizon working painting over a few tags on the 13th Street side of the Verison Building at Second Avenue...

...and just like that, the wall is full again...

Verizon fights back against cupcake graffiti

We've been documenting the back-and-forth with the brown paint alongside the Verizon building on 13th Street at Second Avenue.... these appeared the other today...

And, courtesy of EV Grieve reader evilnyc, we see that Verizon has quickly struck back today...

I have a feeling they're going to need a lot of brown paint.

Stalled-project lot on East 13th Street gets partial makeover

Hey, that stalled-project lot at 536 E. 13th Street near Avenue B is for sale...

...and now there's a new fence here...

...and the lot has also been groomed....(a little)

Before!

Now!

So either:

A) The owner is making the lot look more pretty for a potential buyer or...
B) The lot was sold and the new owner is now sprucing it up...

Your chance to own a stalled project lot on East 13th Street

By golly it was just about one year ago that we took a look at 536 E. 13th Street near Avenue B... the onetime future home of a six-story apartment building ... However, there were issues with Stop Work orders (something pesky about the excavation here causing a huge crack in the building next door...) Now, the site can be yours...the owner has put the lot on the block...

Another brown out: Verizon battles graffiti artists, take two

Back in April, workers painted over all the delicious tags on the Verizon building on 13th Street and Second Avenue... Then, in May, there was an epic bout of tagging...

So, yesterday, Verizon once again had workers paint the 13th Street wall brown... and as these photos courtesy of EV Grieve reader evilnyc show, the brown paint was barely dry before the building was tagged again...
