Former Affaire space on the market on Avenue B
Affaire, the French bistro and lounge, closed at 50 Avenue B back in August. A venture called Brownstone Bar & Grill, serving "Caribbean/Southern food," was on the CB3/SLA docket for a new liquor license this month. However, this applicant has been scratched from the agenda... and based on the new "for lease" sign out front, we likely won't be seeing Brownstone here.
Before Affaire, the space was home to China 1, which neighbors really hated.

Updated: Brownstone Bar & Grill bringing Caribbean/Southern food to former Affaire space
Affaire, the French bistro and lounge, closed at 50 Avenue B last August. According to documents (PDF!) filed ahead of Monday night's CB3/SLA meeting, new owners are looking to open a venture called Brownstone Bar & Grill.
Proposed hours are noon - 2 a.m. Monday to Wednesdays; 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday to Sundays. The application lists a menu of "Caribbean/Southern food," including burgers, ribs and chicken. As for the ample space here for various DJs, weekly burlesque performances, etc., the application simply notes "There will be events, but no covers will be charged."
Before Affaire, China 1 prompted a whole lot of noise-related complaints from neighbors.
Updated 5 p.m.
This item has been removed from the September meeting docket.

Affaire has closed on Avenue B
Several tipsters have pointed out that Affaire recently closed on Avenue B... Calls to the restaurant go unanswered — the number is no longer in service. However, an employee confirmed the closure to a reader, noting that management was not sure if they would reopen a new concept in the space.
Most recently the French bistro and lounge had only been open on Friday and Saturday... and they had curtailed food service for the summer...

[Updated] City temporarily closes Affaire on Avenue B
A tipster notes that the city temporarily closed Affaire, 50 Avenue B at Fourth Street, for operating without a "permit." Not sure what kind of permit. (According to the State Liquor Authority, the bistro/lounge has an active license through September 2012.) We'll see if we can find out some more information here shortly...
Update: An Affaire rep called it a "bureaucratic hiccup."
UPDATED: They are back open
