Noted
Someone wrote a "Look up... Sometimes there are falcons" message in chalk right near where red-tailed hawk parents Christo and Dora have their nest with three youngins in Tompkins Square Park.
I'm thinking the message leaver:
• Was trying to be funny
• Doesn't know the difference between a falcon and a red-tailed hawk
• Was suggesting a band name — Sometimes There Are Falcons is pretty cool.

Baby red-tailed hawks nearly ready to drop the baby and move out of the nest
I haven't had time to baby hawk watch this past week... and so I barely even recognized Christo and Dora's red-tailed hawk offspring in Tompkins Square Park... they've gotten so red-tailed-hawk like...
Photos today by Bobby Williams. Find more photos and details at Goggla's website here.

Hi, I'm a baby hawk
The first of the three Tompkins Square Park hawklets fledged on Thursday (by now, the other two may have as well)...
EVG regular peter radley shared these photos of the first fledger from yesterday afternoon... striking a pretty badass pose...
The first of Christo and Dora's eggs hatched in late April. So this one is roughly 8 weeks old. They grow so big with the daily rat tasting menus.
Updated 1:16 p.m.
Apparently the third hawklet just fledged...

Fledge night
After several days of practice, the first of Christo and Dora's red-tailed hawklets fledged last evening in Tompkins Square Park...
[Photo by Goggla, reposted with permission]
A small crowd gathered to watch as the young one took off to the west (as far as to the Krishna tree anyway)... Goggla was there. Check out her play-by-play here.
The other two hawklets should fledge very soon... expect to see a little erratic flying in Tompkins Square Park this weekend...

Ready to join the flight club
Christo and Dora's red-tailed hawk offspring continue to practice flapping their wings in Tompkins Square Park...
Goggla, who has more hawklet photos here, figures the trio will be ready to fledge any moment now...

Baby's day out
The hawklets in Tompkins Square Park have gotten so big... here's one of Christo and Dora's offspring stretching out today... Goggla has more on the kids and their fledge days ahead right here.

Today's baby hawk watch in Tompkins Square Park
Checking in with Christo and Dora's latest red-tailed hawk offspring this afternoon...
To date, I've still only seen two of the three babies... will check in with Goggla for more about this.

Look at the babies!
In recent days, at least two of Christo and Dora's 3-week-old offspring started poking their heads out from the duplex nest in Tompkins Square Park (inside the Eighth Street entrance off Avenue B) ... Bobby Williams got a few photos of the nestlings ...
Sources say that Christo and Dora's other six kids feel as if this 2016 class is pretty spoiled growing up in a large nest in an actual tree as opposed to a stupid air conditioner, like in 2014 and 2015.
Goggla has some great shots of the nest and Christo and Dora being red-tailed hawks right here.

H/T Goggla because I always have to double-check if it's Christo or Dora!

3 cheers (AGAIN) for Christo and Dora
Goggla and Urban Hawks have visual confirmation that red-tailed hawk parents Christo and Dora have three nestlings (hawklets!) in Tompkins Square Park.
As Goggla noted, this is the third time in as many years that this hawk pair has had three kids. (Nine is enough?)
For all your Christo and Dora groupies, here's a video via Urban Hawks...

Nest stop
Red-tailed hawk parents Christo and Dora on nest watch in Tompkins Square Park late this afternoon... not sure just how many hatchlings are in the nest. Goggla has been monitoring the feedings. (There's a video of a feeding at Urban Hawks.)
Thankfully, there isn't any shortage of rats for the kids.
And maybe later this summer all of Christo and Dora's offspring will return for a family reunion in the Park.

Hawklet watch is on now in Tompkins Square Park
Goggla reports that feedings were witnessed at Christo and Dora's nest in Tompkins Square Park this past weekend... meaning at least one of the hawk eggs in the bi-level nest near Avenue B and Eighth Street has hatched.
The red-tailed hawk parents started the nest-building activities back in early February, as Goggla documented.
The nest watch is decidedly different this year... Christo and Dora built their nests on air conditioners the past two years... on the Christodora House in 2014... and the Ageloff Towers in 2015.
Without windows or roof access, it will be more challenging for the hawkarazzi to keep tabs on the action.
Meanwhile, expect to see more food deliveries from Christo, who was busy hunting in the Park yesterday...

Christo and Dora have been busy [blanking] in Tompkins Square Park
Christo and Dora, the red-tailed hawks of Tompkins Square Park, have been quite active this winter. For starters, they have built a nest in the ginkgo tree near the Park entrance on East Eighth Street and Avenue B.
[EVG photo from yesterday. Lemme know if you need an arrow]
Head over to Goggla's site for the nest-building activity.
Meantime, it is high mating season. For the hawks. They have been busy, you know, mating. (Can you guys be like mature about this subject matter?)
Still, out of concern for our younger readers, we will not be posting any photos of the hawks being natural here.
However, Goggla has several tasteful photos of nature being nature (as my health-ed teacher referred to it in 7th grade) here ... and here.

Hawk invader in Tompkins Square Park!
Kevin the Kiteman was in Tompkins Square Park earlier today... with a hawk kite...
We were curious what, if any, reaction resident red-tailed hawks Christo and Dora might have to this hawk interloper...
Unfortunately, we don't know... Christo and Dora didn't seem to be around at the moment...
