Today in cow tipping posts
Last evening, very special EVG correspondent Christine Champagne noticed that the decorative fiberglass cow that resides on East 12th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue was tipped over.
For starters, the cow doesn't look like it could just fall over on its own. Did someone purposely tip it over? And who tips over cows? (Actually, DON'T answer that.)
And given that the cow is in a protected area, it would appear that this could have been an inside job.
While we speculate, we can report that someone has righted the cow today...
This cow was part of the CowParade around the city back in 2000.

Taking the pile driver out for a spin on this gorgeous Saturday summer
A reader shared this photo today from East 12th Street and Avenue A… Not sure which construction site it's going to or from… or if surge pricing is in effect.

Bringing up babies on the side streets
Unlike last summer, when the young hawks spent much of their formative months in Tompkins Square Park, Christo and Dora's 2015 fledglings have been keeping to the side streets near their former nest at the Ageloff Towers on Avenue A and East Third Street.
So there have been several hawklet sightings on side streets between Avenue A and Avenue B and East Sixth Street and East Third Street.
East Village resident Emily Reese shared this ...
One of Christo and Dora's brood decided to take a break outside my living room window.
The hawk seemed giant. I guess it was two feet from its toes to the top of its head. It was sitting facing away from the window at first, but it noticed me and moved to face me as I began to photograph it. It stayed for 20 minutes, first on the west side of my north-facing fire escape ... Then it shifted to the east side, much to the terror of my two pet birds just inside. It was amazing to watch.
Toward the end of the hawk's visit, she decided to close the aperture and slow the shutter speed on her camera to try to capture the beautiful movement of the hawk's feathers ...
As always, Goggla has been been keeping tabs on the hawk clan (here and here). You may also find more Christo-and-Dora activity at TwoHawksNYC here.

Big word alert: From the front lines of the Avenue B brunch war
An EVG reader noted the arrival of sidewalk graffiti outside bonkers brunch spot Poco on Avenue B and East Third Street …
Per the reader: "I had to look up the word but sums it up about right. Haha."
Also…
…there's a similar message across the Avenue outside Mama's Bar…
One fed-up neighbor describes Poco as a "horror show."
"Poco is constantly crowding the sidewalk, and attracted people from many different areas to come and have a free-for-all of drinking and not realizing that we actually live here," the neighbor said.
Poco's website advertises that it has the "Best boozy brunch on the island."

A scene on Second Avenue this morning
Two readers described this scene this morning on Second Avenue by the steps of the Ottendorfer Library. Two older men are passed out on the sidewalk. Two other men come by and try to rouse them. Or so it seems.
A passerby on the other side of the street starts screaming at the men standing. Residents in an apartment across the way also yell at the men. There's shouting back and forth.
From the witnesses, it appears that one of the men took money from the two on the ground. The man in the red shirt declares his innocence. He walks into Second Avenue yelling. He comes back to the men on the sidewalk and explains he was actually helping by hiding the money on their bodies. He says that it was too easy to take.
There's more standing and the two finally walk away, still declaring their innocence. They placed the money into the crack of the man's ass.
Someone else walking by promises to call an ambulance. Others pass by walking on the Avenue.

Amanda Bynes enshrined in the East Village
Over on East Ninth and Stuyvesant, a shrine of sorts arrived in honor of Amanda Bynes, the actress who has apparently been acting in a bizarre fashion of late. (Enough so to make ABC News the other day.)
As for this shrine, EVG reader Rachel Borg notes that the tribute-maker even Photoshopped Bynes' face on the Mary candles.
