May Day (and Night) in the East Village

There was a lot going on in the neighborhood yesterday, May 1.

EVG contributor Stacie Joy captured some of the goings-on... including (in no particular order) the LUNGS Spring Awakening, Beltane, a May Pole, outside Lucky on Avenue B, the opening day of Spring Into Pride at 3rd & B’Zaar, an anarchist council event in Tompkins Square Park, a flea market in the Park to raise money for the Audre Lorde Project,  and, in the evening, the first Temptation INXS — 80s Dance Party Saturdays via DJ TM.8 in its new home at Drom.

Here then, photos from May 1...

EVG contributor Derek Berg recalled this photo of Farrier, the founder of Bookleaves used and rare books in the West Village, reading a copy of "Baseball All-Stars" on Second Avenue from 2016...

Mystery pianist playing some snow tunes on 3rd Street

During the snowstorm last night, a mystery man arrived ... and started playing a piano that was out on the sidewalk on Third Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue.

EVG reader Max shared the photo and video clip below... and noted that the man returned this evening around 5. "He's taking some requests from neighbors out the window, and had some admirers stop to watch."

A return to the Avenue B flea

Yesterday afternoon saw another Avenue B Flea between 10th Street and 13th Street (revisit the one from Oct. 10 here) ... the stoop sale was organized to support the neighborhood, independent vendors and local artists.

EVG contributor Stacie Joy was again documented the shoppers and sellers along the Avenue...
