First Lamb Shabu has closed on 14th Street
For rent signs hang in the front window at 218 E. 14th St., bringing an end to the short tenure (August 2019) of First Lamb Shabu.
This was the first Manhattan outpost for the Beijing-based hot pot chain that has more than 300 locations in China. (There's also an outpost in Flushing that people like.)
Prior to the start of the First Lamb Shabu build-out in April 2018 (!), the storefront between Second Avenue and Third Avenue had been empty since Dunkin' Donuts decamped for a smaller space on the block in August 2015.

First Lamb Shabu is (finally) open on 14th Street
First Lamb Shabu, a Beijing-based hot pot chain with more than 300 locations in China, has opened its first Manhattan outpost at 218 E. 14th St. between Second Avenue and Third Avenue. (There's also an outpost in Flushing that people like.)
As the name implies, there are many lamb options — per Eater — "from chops to spines, and also has fun add-ons like a Hello Kitty-sculpture made out of beef oil, as well as a fish-shaped fish pudding. Besides traditional broth-based hot pot, First Lamb Shu also does a lamb stew — where broth arrives with spiced, bone-in lamb ribs."
The restaurant is open daily from 4 to 10:30 p.m.
And a photo of the interior...
The build-out took awhile. We first noted this arrival in April 2018 (via the Commercial Observer).
The storefront had been empty for several years, ever since Dunkin' Donuts decamped for a smaller space on the block in August 2015.

A reminder that First Lamb Shabu is coming soon to 14th Street
There hasn't been much activity of late to note at First Lamb Shabu, which emerged from behind the plywood at 218 E. 14th St. between Second Avenue and Third Avenue last fall.
Now, however, a coming-soon sign is on the storefront...
As previously reported, this will be the first Manhattan outpost for the Beijing-based hot pot chain with more than 300 locations in China.
The Commercial Observer reported back in April 2018 that the company, which has a location in Flushing, signed a 10-year lease for the space with a $20,000-per-month rent.
The storefront has been empty for several years, ever since Dunkin' Donuts (DD!) decamped for a smaller space on the block in August 2015.
