TBT — Purple Rain on Avenue A

From June 9, 2014... when Prince was featured on the roll-down gate at Mikey Likes It, 199 Avenue A near East 12th Street.

The mural, created by Bronx-based artist Andre Trenier, was in honor of the shop's Flavor of the Month: Purple Rain (double blueberry ice cream with cheesecake chunks).

And in case you haven't heard the news... Prince has died. He was 57.

Will this ice cream give you Satisfaction?

As always pretty much ... I like Andre Trenier's 1980s(usually!)-inspired murals on the roll-down gate at Mikey Likes It, 199 Avenue A near East 12th Street.

For January, it's Mick Jagger...

And the flavor of the month — "Satisfaction," a Snickers ice cream with a caramel swirl and roasted peanuts. Might go well with a cold Italian pizza.

You won't shoot your eye out with the Flavor of the Month at Mikey Likes It on Avenue A

As previously noted, I always like Andre Trenier's 1980s-inspired murals on the roll-down gate at Mikey Likes It, 199 Avenue A near East 12th Street.

This month it's Ralphie from "A Christmas Story."

And the flavor of the month: "Christmas Story" — an egg nog ice cream with carrot cake chunks and pumpkin pie pieces.

Chucky's in love at Mikey's

I always like (and actually look forward to seeing now) Andre Trenier's 1980s-inspired murals on the roll-down gate at Mikey Likes It, 199 Avenue A near East 12th Street.

This month it's Charles Lee Ray … aka Chucky from the Academy Award-winning "Child's Play."

And the flavor of the month: Child's Play: spiced pumpkin ice cream with cinnamon streusel, buttered pecan pieces and cheesecake chunks.

Updated: Slick Rick's month-long residency on Avenue A

EVG regular Greg Masters spotted Bronx-based artist Andre Trenier creating this month's mural on the roll-down gate at Mikey Likes It, 199 Avenue A near East 12th Street.

The mural is of Slick Rick to coincide with the ice cream shop's flavor of the month…

[Updated] Mikey Likes It turns 1 today

The ice cream shop at 199 Avenue A between East 12th Street and East 13th Street was closed yesterday to prepare for today's 1-year anniversary celebration.

Proprietor Michael "Mikey" Cole started the business from his parent's StuyTown apartment, where he grew up.

"We'd be at my house for hours filling up the freezer with ice cream until my mom was like, 'You gotta get that shit out of here.'"

You can read our two-part interview with Cole here and here.

Looks like the shop is closed one more day... with the 1-year celebrations taking place tomorrow ...

Mikey Likes Eminem

This might be the first time that we recall an album-release party at an ice cream shop.

But that's happening today at Mikey Likes It Ice Cream at 199 Avenue A between East 12th Street and East 13th Street …

Here's the message via the Mikey Likes It Tumblr:

This Monday Nov. 24th, we will be hosting the release of Eminem’s newest album “SHADYXV”. We’ve collaborated on a flavor sharing the same name that screams Detroit. SHADYXV is made with Motor City ingredients: Michigan cherries, Sanders hot fudge and Vernors ginger ale. To make this an even greater event, Slaughterhouse will be in the shop with the meet and greet. The event will take place between 4pm-8pm. We suggest all interested in attending arrive early. This will be a great day for Eminem fans. You can meet Slaughterhouse, pick up the double disk and a double scoop.

Slaughterhouse is on Eminem's Shady Records label … and featured on the two-disc Shady XV.

And ahead of the release party, the NYPD dropped off enough barricades to cover a parade…

In honor of Summertime on Avenue A

Once again just noting the new roll-down gate art at Mikey Likes It, the newish ice cream shop at 199 Avenue A near East 12th Street.

The Will Smith mural is in honor of this month's Flavor of the Month: "Summertime (tropical lemonade) dedicated to The Fresh Prince and possibly the greatest summer song ever, Summertime."

Previously!

July and George Michael…

June and Prince…

September will be dedicated to Mr. Mister. KIDDING. But that would be strangely funny. Kind of.

Purple Rain on Avenue A

Just noting the rather awesome new roll-down gate art at Mikey Likes It, the four-week-old ice cream shop at 199 Avenue A near East 12th Street.

The Prince mural, created by Bronx-based artist Andre Trenier, is in honor of the shop's Flavor of the Month: Purple Rain (double blueberry ice cream with cheesecake chunks).

The Mikey is the owner Mike Cole, a lifelong resident of Stuy Town.
