About the for-rent sign at Tac N Roll on 4th Street

Tac N Roll's time has come to an end here — for now anyway — at 124 E. Fourth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue.

A for rent sign arrived outside the quick-serve cafe late last week.

Earlier this month, owner Eric Wong said that he was awaiting an insurance company assessment to see if he'd be able to cover damages from a looting the shop suffered late on May 31.

"Unfortunately, we have yet to receive compensation from the insurance company for our riot claim, and rather we keep depleting our funds to an empty space we asked the landlord to attempt to rent it or we can retake the space when the claim comes through," Wong said yesterday.

So a return is possible.

Most recently, Tac N Roll was sharing the space with the pop up Black 6 Coffee Trading Co. The veteran-owned company, which was created to fund the nonprofit organization the Black 6 Project, was serving coffee and a variety of breakfast parathas.

And Tac N Roll will continue with the pop ups, taking part in one this coming weekend at 50 Avenue A, the former Villa Cemita space. Wong, a Marine veteran, is teaming up with the incoming Milk Money Kitchens, whose founder and CEO, Nancy Preston, is an Army veteran who served as a Brigade Engineer building bases in Iraq.

Tac N Roll awaits an insurance assessment

Several readers sounded the alarm over the site of an empty Tac N Roll at 124 E. Fourth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue.

Tac N Roll owner Eric Wong offered an explanation. His quick-serve food shop was looted late on May 31, along with many other local businesses...

"[We] cleared out all the damages and equipment and are waiting on the insurance company assessment regarding the riot/vandalism in our store," he said in a message. "We would love to serve the neighborhood again depending on how much we get back [to be able] to order new equipment and fix our damaged decor. Hopefully, it would be soon."

The Black 6 Coffee Trading Co. arrived at 124 E. Fourth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue back on Feb. 10.

The veteran-owned company, which was created to fund the nonprofit organization the Black 6 Project, is currently sharing space with street-food specialists Tac N Roll whose owner, Eric Wong, previously served in the Marine Corps.

This pop-up featuring coffee and a variety of breakfast parathas will be here until July.

Openings: Autre Kyo Ya, Tac N Roll

Autre Kyo Ya, the sister restaurant of Kyo Ya, the Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant at 94 E. Seventh St. between Avenue A and First Avenue, is now in soft-open mode at 10 Stuyvesant St.



As Eater points out: "Autre Kyo Ya is slightly different, with more affordable price points and more inspiration from western cooking." (Eater has a copy of the menu for the restaurant just off of East Ninth Street and Third Avenue.)

GM Erina Yoshida and her father Tony also own Sunrise Mart and the cocktail bar Angel's Share. Autre Kyo Ya last housed the tapas bar The Barrel.

Meanwhile, Tac N Roll, a quick-serve Mexican restaurant at 124 E. Fourth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue, is also in soft-open operations.

We don't have any other info on the place at the moment... Social Tees had this space until they moved in December 2011… (Social Tees is now on East Fifth Street.)
