Last few days for Kenny Scharf at the Brant Foundation, and the admission is free

The Kenny Scharf exhibition at the Brant Foundation closes on Friday after nearly three months. (The show opened on Nov. 13.)

Admission is free for the last two days on Thursday and Friday.

This was said to be the first institutional show for Scharf, who made a name for himself in the 1980s East Village art scene alongside one-time roommate Keith Haring and others.

The Brant show spans several floors and includes 70 pieces of his vibrant work from the late 1970s to the early 2000s.
A few faves... "Self-Portrait With Cadillac" with his signature intergalactic motif (1979)...
... "Escaped in Time ... I'm Pleased" (1979)...
..."Kembra in Prettyland"...
... "Udo by the Sea"...
And in the gift shop — Scharf's 1961 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, which is not for sale...
And if you haven't been to the Brant Foundation before, be sure to check out the view to the north from the back of the fourth floor...
The Brant Foundation is at 421 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue.

Exhibit hours: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are 50% off tomorrow (Wednesday), making them $7.50 for East Village residents. There's free admission on Thursday and Friday. You can secure a spot here.

Scharf, a California native, has lived in Los Angeles for the past two decades. Learn more about his work at this link.

Reminders: The work of Kenny Scharf is now at the Brant Foundation through February

In case you are looking for something to do (with visitors?) in the neighborhood this weekend... the exhibit featuring Kenny Scharf, a pioneer of the street art movement in the 1980s East Village, is underway at the Brant Foundation next month.

FYI details:
... the exhibition brings together over 70 paintings, sculptures, and objects created throughout the artist's expansive career, beginning with works from the late seventies. The survey is compiled from the Brant collections as well as major loans from institutions and private collections, including The Whitney Museum of American Art (New York) and The Broad (Los Angeles).

Kenny Scharf is co-curated by Peter M. Brant & Tony Shafrazi in close collaboration with the artist.
Tickets (here) through Dec. 22 are currently available, and the remaining tickets (Dec. 23 – Feb. 28) will be released in the upcoming weeks. The exhibition will be open Wednesday through Sunday. (Tickets remain for this weekend.)

Tickets are $20, $15 for students, and $15 for East Village residents. Admission is 50% off every Wednesday from 2-6 p.m.

The Brant Foundation's first show at 421 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue in the spring of 2019 featured work by Basquiat — some 70 works collectively valued at $1 billion. Other exhibits include a career-spanning Warhol collection in the spring of 2023.

Friday's opening shot

Seen this morning outside the Brant Foundation on Sixth Street between Avenue A and First Avenue (thanks, Steph, for the pic!)... a step-and-repeat banner apparently leftover from last night's launch celebration...

Dom PĂ©rignon, which, along with Miller High Life is one of our favorite Champagne maisons, pays tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat with a special-edition Vintage 2015. (And no, you won't be able to order it down the street at the Cherry Tavern.)

DP previously collaborated on special-edition bottle designs featuring Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons.
