A second Famous Cutz now open on 1st Avenue

From the EVG tipline... a second outpost of Famous Cutz is now open (as of yesterday) at 156 First Ave. between Ninth Street Street and 10th Street.

The barber shop's original location is around the corner at 305 E. Ninth St.

The address was for years, until last July, A Repeat Performance. Proprietor Sharon Jane Smith thought it was time to close up the bric-a-brac shop after nearly 40 years in business.

Smith's friend, jewelry designer Lisa Linhardt, took over No. 156 after a renovation last fall. But the COVID-19 PAUSE "was too much for such a new storefront." Linhardt Design continues to operate out of its manufacturing facility on 48th Street.

Bonefade Barbers mark arrival on Avenue A

A tipster told us last month that a barber shop is opening at 115 Avenue A between Seventh Street and St. Mark's Place.

On Saturday, the coming soon message/skull arrived for Bonefade Barbers.

The space hasn't had a full-time tenant since Alphabets closed here in February 2014 and moved to 64 Avenue A.

Barber shop cuts into 9th Street storefront

A barber shop has opened on Ninth Street just east of Second Avenue.

For now, Famous Cutz is having a $15 haircut special...



Ambica, a handcrafted jewelry shop, was previously in the storefront at No. 305.

Normal business opening on Seventh Street

Between Avenue A and First Avenue. There has to be a catch. So, for $695, you get a haircut AND a whole hog dinner with all-you-can-drink craft beer? Your hair is treated with black truffle oil and (old vines) sherry first? This can't just be a barber shop, right?

Anyway, as far as we know, it's just a barber shop.

Where's Ben from Neighborhood Barbers?

A reader sends along an email with news that Ben has quit his chair at Neighborhood Barbers on East Ninth Street for a new job. The other barbers won't provide any forwarding information, and the resident would like to find Ben, who has been his longtime barber... Anyone?
