Old favorites

EVG contributor Susan Schiffman was cleaning out some drawers at home and came across menus for three old (and long-closed) favorites — La Foccacceria, Jade Mountain and Bamboo House...

Don't remember when they all closed — well, OK Bamboo House in November 2007 ... and Jade Mountain in the summer of 2007.

This would be a good PAUSE cleaning activity. Unfortunately, the EVG menu drawer went in 2011.

Farewell to these East Village takeout and delivery menus

I last cleaned up the Grieve menu drawer back in October 2011. (Relive the memories here!)

It was time to do so again: The drawer doesn't easily open. Or close. Too many menus.

Which, as I said at the time, is quite stupid. I usually order from the same few places. But the volume does impress guests.

"Want to order in some food? Great! Here are 768 menus to choose from!"

Until your guest selects something from a place that closed four years ago.

And so — farewell to the menus...

Cleaning out the Grieve menu drawer

There is a drawer in our apartment full of menus. Hundreds. It's absurd, because we always end up ordering from Odessa.

So I cleaned out the drawer because: a) it wouldn't close and b) we're going to rent it out. The space will fit a small futon and maybe something else pliable from IKEA. No Pets. No brokers please. $1,350 a month. Perfect for students on a budget, models from Europe and people who like sleeping in drawers. Must like menus.

As for the menus... nothing too old... but it is a snapshot of how quickly some places come and go...
