Days and nights of Pride

In recent days, EVG contributor Stacie Joy attended several Pride-related events, including the Every Woman Biennial, Dyke March, PrideFest and the Queer Liberation March/Reclaim Pride. (As Gothamist reported, there were arrests in Washington Square Park following the Queer Liberation March.)

Monday's parting shot

Pro skateboarder Brian Anderson has finished his mural outside 50 Avenue A between Third Street and Fourth Street... this Pride Month work coincides with his first board release (via Clown Skateboards) ... with proceeds going to the LISA Project.

Out in the Streets

In case you haven't seen this mural outside the Second Avenue F stop. For Pride Month, the wall features the work of Brooklyn-based photographer-documentarian the Dusty Rebel... who incorporated his photos here "to celebrate the queer community and our long history of using the street for performance and protest."

As he wrote on Instagram:

As went through my archive, I got excited to create something that celebrates historic moments I felt honored to capture: The Drag March, kiss-ins, Gays Against Guns, Queer Liberation March, The Dyke March. As I pasted these photos of queer icons, mentors, activists, and friends, I felt you all with me out in the streets.

This mural on Avenue A is a passage from 'Call Me By Your Name' — in Braille

Here's a look at the mural that Jaye Moon, a Brooklyn-based Lego artist, created outside 50 Avenue A (the former Citi branch!) between Third Street and Fourth Street.

Per the sign, the piece, made partly with Legos, is an excerpt of the script — in Braille — from "Call Me By Your Name," the Oscar-Nominated film from 2017 ...







This piece is part of the WorldPride Mural Project initiative, a collaboration with The L.I.S.A. Project. Per Instagram: "Both local and international artists, 50 in total, were selected to create murals within the five boroughs of New York that reflect and honor the beauty, struggle, and strides of the LGBTQIA+ community."

The work, mounted in plywood, is temporarily covering the cowboy art here.

At the start of the 2018 Drag March

Dozens (hundreds?) of beautiful queens and kings gathered in Tompkins Square Park early last evening for the annual Drag March — the kick-off to NYC Pride weekend.

Joined by a small NYPD presence and a lot of photographers, the group made their way west to the Stonewall Inn.
