Unable to attend today's Hands Off! rally starting in Bryant Park, these residents — (from left) Lois Weaver, Peggy Shaw and Charlie Spencer — held their own protest on Fourth Street...
I was there. Ten's of thousands folks showed up representing the diversity of ideas, opinions and cultures that can be found in but a very few places in this world; all having one thing in common - a deep hatred for this current buffoonery and a desire to bring back normalcy, respect and the rule of law.
At one point, the length of the march stretched from Madison Park at 23rd and 5th, all the way up to NY Public Library and around to Bryant Park. Massive!
The remarkable aspect the event was the almost complete absence of a police presence. At one point I stopped to look around and couldn't find one officer in view for blocks. They had a drone in the sky and a few patrol vehicles scattered along the protest route, but that was it. When I did see any police, they were calm and observant, but in no way authoritarian. They just took the whole thing in stride.
The protest organizers directed the event in much the same way that the "open streets" folks do, by halting the march every block or so and allowing drivers to pass through. Everyone was acted as adults and if there were any problems, which I'm guessing that there weren't, otherwise, it would have made headlines in the media.
There was a small contingent of trump supporters at the beginning of the route. And, as you would expect, they were absolutely proud of ensconcing themselves in the usual banners and hats that makes them stick out like a sore thumb. Not surprisingly, acting in the same childish manner as their dear leader while noisily shouting out the usual ridiculous statements that they've heard on Faux News. Collectively, their performance illustrated they had an IQ less than that of a fencepost. Everyone ignored them, much to their chagrin.
The moral of all this is - ACT UP, FIGHT BACK! We have no one to blame but ourselves for allowing this travesty to go further.
Mehhh...this happened during his first term and HE GOT ELECTED. The current two-party system is obsolete. These bums (donkeys and dumbos) got this country into over $30tn in debt. What's the definition of insanity?! Doing the SAME thing over and over again and expecting a different result!
This is not the same as his first term and the parties are not the same. The dems would not have crashed the economy on purpose while partying at a palace and sucking Saudi money like it was ambrosia. Not to mention that he wants us drinking water with PFOAs at 10 PPM, crypto currency backed by US currency, a flippy floppy trade war that makes him look like the moron that he is based on a random Amazon search by non-other than Jared Kushner for a financial advisor (don't these people know anyone? I thought they had some actual influence), crippling of the Kennedy Center, trashing the Rose Garden, selling state secrets, importing actual human traffickers, sending non-gang members to secret gulags in foreign countries, not following court orders or the rule of law, oh, and I LOVE this one, saying that the entire rest of the term of congress is just one long day or some shit so that nothing can be done to salvage our economy in time. Meanwhile, Faux news just drops the stock ticker on the channel bc it's too truthy. THE PARTIES ARE NOT THE SAME. THAT'S JUST MORE BS.
This reminds me of my favorite David Sedaris quote: "To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it?" To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.” That is seeing "both sides"
The loony left agenda is kaput. Defund the police, open borders, men vs girls, etc. is the shit sandwich that was rejected. As John Fetterman, and to some extent Gavin Newsom, recently pointed out if the Dems continue to push anti commonsense positions they will continue stay in the minority for a long time.
No sense trying to have a conversation with the MAGA (the Republican Party is now dead, it's the MAGA party) trolls who post* at the EV Grieve blog but as I type this and, yet again, as the markets are forecasted to crash **, here's 'a word from their former god as per one of his 1987 radio broadcasts:
*Why would a MAGA post here or live in the East Village, home of punk, the Ukrainian Festival, The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, The Pyramid Club, etc.. \Why don't they "move" (oh the irony) to Staten Island?
**"Yahoo finance-"Stock market today: Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq futures plummet as Trump tariff rout set to continue"
"For a while it works, but only for a short time. What eventually occurs is homegrown industries start relying on government protection in the form of high tariffs. They stop competing and stop making the innovative management and technological changes they need to succeed in world markets. Then, while all this is going on, something even worse occurs. High tariffs inevitably lead to retaliation by foreign country and the triggering of fierce trade wars. The memory of all this occurring back in the ‘30s made me determined when I came to Washington to spare the American people the protectionist legislation that destroys prosperity.”--Ronald Reagan.

I see the "both sides" POV has made its appearance.

Everyone loves Lois & Peggy, longtime East Villagers. Love that they made a Hands Off!: Fourth Street Arts Block Edition.
anyone who voted for Trump should be deported

As Senator Booker put it recently, "This is not left vs. right anymore, but right vs. wrong."
