NYU showcases John Penley's photos online

Last year, neighbor activist/photographer John Penley donated his extensive photo collection to the NYU Tamiment Library.... And now, the library has posted an online exhibit of his work from Tamiment's John Penley Photographs Collection ... such as the one above from 1994... a police assault vehicle evicting squatters on East 13th Street....

You can access the whole collection here.

EV Grieve--thanks for the info--wonderful photos filled with memories...especially great photo of the old Polish Man who lived on the street and wore a plastic cap and cape..he was a gentle person and was burned to death by some kids. RIP Lovely Polish Man--you were nice.

Great photos. I remember when they finally got the squatters out of East 13th Street. The squatters were throwing all sorts of stuff off the roof, making it dangerous for everyone. A friend of mine almost got nailed by a cinder block. I miss a lot of the old East Village but not the squatters!
