That's not a swastika. It looks like greek lettering from a NYU fraternity.

My guess a 14 year old.

I live 30 feet away from this mural. I get the honor of walking past Joe every day. I wish there was some alarm that would go off in my apartment that alerted me whenever someone touches or tries to deface this, I will gladly run outside and kick the fuck out them. Ruining another artists mural, especially one of this stature, is an absolute rule of street art.

Of course you would, keyboard warrior. Lucky for that guy half your age that you weren't there.

That's a Hare Krishna tag.

Uh, that's a swastika thus hate speech thus a hate crime.

Perhaps the tag is a comment on the future that is being written now in the East Village ?

Fun Fact: joe strummer was in a band called The Clash.

I thought it was the new Air BNB logo.

Anonymous 10:10 - that's just the right thing to do. If I was walking past and saw it - same thing would happen. Gotta show respect to Joe and other murals.

And Anonymous 10:47 - people half my age have gotten tossed around and schooled for many years now. "Age and treachery will always beat youth and skill" is the quote I believe. There are those of us that are NOT soley in the catagory of "keyboard warrior"...

Just rude that some cretin would do this. Joe was such a humanist but not beyond giving a solid tongue lashing and getting physical when he felt it right. Much respect, brother Joe.

Anonymous 10:10 - that would just be the right thing to do. If I saw someone doing this in passing - definately a beating.

Anonymous 10:47 - people half my age have been tossed around and schooled for some years now. I believe the theorum "Age and treachery will always beat youth and skill" applies here. There are those of us that do not just fall into the "keyboard warrior" catagory - we talk the talk and walk the walk. Old school.

Just wrong that people would deface a mural such as this or any others of similar stature. Joe was a humanist but not beyond a solid tongue lashing and getting physical if he felt it was warranted. Much respect, brother Joe.

People - just show some respect. Thank you - appreciated.

Kids today, they ain't got no respect for the counter-culture icons of my youth. Seriously, listen to yourselves.

I work at Niagara, home of the Mural and am happy to report that the graffiti will be gone by tonight. Idiots tag the mural up on the regular but we handle that shit with the quickness.

Joe Strummer would not beat up some miserable tagger. He was better than that.

I am not. Or wouldn't be, if I could be bothered to risk life and limb to school some tagger. And I cannot be bothered, but I would most likely give the young man a stern talking to.

Thanks, Melissa, for handling all this - really appreciated. See you soon inside that wall....

Maybe if it actually looked like Joe Strummer...

I thought it was MCA.

Melissa from Niagara said the graffiti would be gone by 9/13. I passed by today and it's still there. Too bad Photoshop's Clone Stamp Tool doesn't exist for buildings.
