Trek Bicycle, an American bikemaker with multiple retail shops in the city, is opening an outpost on the Bowery.
The signage arrived late last week here at 303 Bowery in the retail base of Avalon Bowery Place between First Street and Houston.
This space has been vacant since Tatyana Boutique closed in January 2016.
Trek's arrival also reverses the (micro) trend of bike shops leaving the neighborhood, including Danny's on 14th Street and Landmark on Avenue A.

What ever happened to the bike shop that was on Ave B near 13th? They expanded into a coffee shop and then closed. Did they ever reopen someplace else? I really liked that place, nice people.
The bike shop returned on 13th st between A and B. Continuum Cycles, they are awesome!

CC Cyclery. Located at 530 E 13th Street. See link. Jeff at CC was one of the owners of the shop on Ave B. Great shop, great service.

Continuum Cycles is back on 13th st between A and B
Everyone, please note the correct name for the shop is CC Cyclery, not Continuum Cycles. Continuum was that name of the shop on Ave B. Thanks.

Ha ha, Trek is also currently attempting a store on 1st Ave in Styetown. My speculation is that they are betting on the great NYC bike movement of circa 2019. In my own experience (as a part-time dealer of vintage bikes), far more people these days are interested in riding the Big-bank-sponsored rental bikes than in buying/owning/maintaining/looking after one of their own. Bike ownership is passe now, and certainly the few people in NYC looking to actually buy one are not really looking for dorky Treks IMO. Nevertheless, good luck guys.
I love CC, so happy they are there. But with my limited schedule and their limited hours, I found myself at Styetown Trek for a repair. Super nice folks there and blasting AC. I hope the bike shop model will work out and that 1:46 is wrong. Also - Trek owns some non-dorky brands, one of which I happen to have myself (Electra).
Bike ownership is difficult in Manhattan. Small apartments, flights of stairs, and thieves aplenty. A Brompton is a great solution if you have the money, as it folds quickly and compactly so you can take it everywhere.
