A report of a package thief on 3rd Street

An EVG reader shares this from a building on Third Street between Avenue A and Avenue B...

Somebody in my building buzzed in this package thief, who took my stuff. In addition to his backpack, he's got a giant suitcase, so I'm betting my building isn't the only one he hit.

Also:

I can't decide if I'm glad his mask is below the chin, so we can see his face, or if I'm annoyed that he's breathing all over the narrow hallway.

Did you find out who buzzed him in and why?

they might not have been buzzed in. Someone tried to get into our building (2nd street between A and B) today with a screwdriver, broke the lock, a locksmith is fixing it now.

This happened in my building. The thief was definitely buzzed in. I'm sure he claimed to be delivering a package. We got the security footage from the management company after the fact. We can't see who is buzzing, and if someone claims to be from UPS or FedEx, most people just press the button to unlock the door. People should ask for the name on the package. Of course, we've also had the screwdriver break-in attempts; earlier this year someone damaged the door trying to break in, and now there's a little piece of metal in place to block a screwdriver attempt.

In the bad old days in the EV it was a given that creeps could gain access to a building via the front door buzzed in or not. It was normal to have a steel crash bar attached the entry door of the interior apt unit. Worked like a charm against street creeps and lowlifes.

I have a surveillance image of a similar looking man who may have been involved in a package theft in my building. We filed a police report. Reach out to me if you would like to compare notes.

People need to like make police reports for these type of situations for those thieves, I know a similar situation that happened to somebody else, the person ordered an online package and the person has a month or 2 with the package not arriving to the person's home this happened around east 3rd street east village nyc, I've also seen and know another situation from the same neighborhood an ordered package with a fragile sign or sticker on the box with the merchandise arriving broken to the person's home

I often find boxes opened and abandoned while walking my dog, I return them when I can. This is such a shitty thing to do to people right now. If I caught him doing this I'd beat his ass just for fun.
