Photos by Stacie Joy

Parishioners from St. Brigid-St. Emeric on Avenue B observed Good Friday yesterday with a Stations of the Cross processional that started outside the church...
... and the Way of the Cross procession continued on Eighth Street between Avenue B and Avenue C...
... the procession continued along Avenue C and then on Seventh Street...
... before a return inside St. Brigid-St. Emeric...

Beautiful! Thank you so much for the coverage. I was unable to attend this year, but these pictures really brought it home to me.

Great photos and having personally observed this over many years it seems obvious that St. Brigids is doing well financially since this Easter event has the best costumes and other items I have ever seen the church use. When was the other Saint's name added and why ?

The Church of St. Emeric (Patron Saint of Youths) was on East 13th Street between Avenues C and D. It was a beautiful 1950's church, which, unfortunately for us, was closed by the diocese in 2013 when restoration on St. Brigid's church was completed, and the two the parishes merged to form the parish of St. Brigid-St. Emeric.

St. Emeric's church was an RC church to the east of here that was forced to close, so their parish merged with St. Brigid's.

Something similar happened to the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer on 3rd and A, I believe.

Gorgeous photos which have touched my heart.

Jesus is risen. Let this be a reminder we are here to serve our Lord and savior. Praise be to God the almighty.

I was walking down the street when this display was unfolding. I was offended by the grotesque nature of brutal violence. This is a public area for everyone to share and experience. I don't impinge my atheism in the face of others. Why is this performance allowed each and every year? Not everyone believes in Christ as one of your commenters implied.

NYC baby! The rest of us politely tolerate what we believe because diversity makes this home. ❤️People curse in front of my 4 yr old, vomit on my stoop, play loud misogynistic music, wear thongs alone during gay pride or mermaid parade etc. etc. It’s okay to agree to disagree!!
