The Parks Department knows it's never too early to start thinking about mulching your tree — maybe even before you buy one!
MulchFest signage arrived yesterday in Tompkins Square Park announcing the dates for this season's Mulchchella — Jan. 6-7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where free mulch will be up for grabs. (Prediction! Soon, this event will be two weekends long!)

This is exactly why I have a small, fake tree. Its environmentally sustainable, economical, and aesthetically pleasing. :)
I am a Christmas tree seller and Christmas trees are very environmentally sustainable for a number of reasons one is that they aren’t plastic. They can be mulched instead of staying around forever The others being they decarbonize the air for about a decade before being cut while being a cover crop for animals. They take minimal pesticides and herbicides if grown correctly and very little water compared to other crops. I’ve never seen anyone complain about farmers cutting lettuce and Christmas trees are no different.
