Full reveal at 227 E. Seventh St.

The plywood covering the entrance to the all-new 227 E. Seventh St. came down on Friday...as Dave on 7th discovered...



The classic-brick building here (that people seem to like) just west of Avenue C will feature "classic full floor condominium residences" with either two or three bedrooms. Still waiting for pricing via the 227 teaser site.

For now, let's just admire the front door and window.

Early last month, the construction netting came down at the all-new 227 E. Seventh St. just west of Avenue C.

And the reader reaction in the comments was generally positive. Example!

Now that is a great looking building, love the color and design. Note to all future developers who are planning to build in the EV or any other historic area: this is how you do it.

This is a classic brick design that reminds me of many industrial and pre-war buildings which have all stood the test of time, with a bit more glass which is fine in the smaller panes, and nice looking balconies and brickwork that blends well with the location.

Of course, a home here is very likely out of our/your price range. (Hey, but we can enjoy it while walking by!)

Anyway, there's a little more information now about the building via a sign that workers posted the other day...



The building has a website… where we learned that the "classic full floor condominium residences" have either two or three bedrooms. You can sign up to be on a mailing list. Floor plans and pricing shouldn't be too far behind.

There are six condos here… we haven't seen any pricing yet for these homes. (Perhaps you have?) Regardless, one amenity is having the ability to be first in line for any matches showing at Zum Schneider next door.

A spot check over at 227 E. Seventh St. ... where a 6-floor building is rising from the plywood near Avenue C (behind Zum Schneider's, basically) ... As we previously reported, DOB permits show that each floor will contain one residential unit.

Taking the time to check in on a few construction projects... Last week, we looked at the start of the digging for a new 6-floor building at 327 E. Ninth St. ... and 316-318 E. Third St.

Here's an update on another new 6-floor building — 227 E. Seventh St. near Avenue C... DOB permits show that each floor will contain one residential unit. (And we have not seen the final rendering just yet.)

The sign says that the work be complete by March 31, 2014.

In late October, the body of Christine Ebel, the co-owner of Arcane, which is adjacent to the property on Avenue C, was found in this lot.

Here's what's left of the former 227 E. Seventh St.

Word began circulating yesterday that the body discovered yesterday morning in a lot at 227 E. Seventh St. was Christine Ebel, the co-owner of Arcane, which is adjacent to the property on Avenue C. Ebel ran the French-Caribbean eatery with her brother, Benjamin Alter.

We'll update the post today when more information becomes available. Several people told us that the death was accidental. Meanwhile, a memorial is growing outside the restaurant at 111 Avenue C, where this was the scene early this morning...

DNAinfo's Serena Solomon reports that Ebel, 52, apparently died after falling from a balcony. She reportedly lived in an apartment above the bistro. Other restaurateurs in the area are mourning her death.

"She was always there [at Arcane], always working," said [Edi] Frauneder, who is also the chef at Edi and the Wolf, "humming along to the pace of Avenue C."

Coming soon: A new six-floor residential building. Some day. The DOB hasn't approved the plans just yet.

It seems as if it had been empty for years.

Demolition starts at 227 E. Seventh St.

Over on East Seventh Street near Avenue C, workers put up the plywood and dropped off the dumpster for the space last week ...

As we noted last month, there are plans to put up a six-story building (the DOB disapproved the first round of plans in July).

There are also permits on file with the DOB for demolition of this structure ... Dave on 7th got a quick look inside late last week...

On Friday, notices arrived on the door here at 227 E. Seventh St. near Avenue C...

As you can see, the asbestos removal completion date is listed as March 13, 2013 ... Meanwhile, it turns out there are permits on file with the DOB for demolition of this structure ... then a new six-story "masonry building" here... (the DOB disapproved the first round of plans last month)...

And, per the DOB, plans for this building date back to 2004 ... though the job was withdrawn then...

Meanwhile, across the street at No. 222, all is seemingly quiet at the moment on the plans to turn the building into the Villa Capri condos...
