Carnitas Ramírez celebrating 1 year in the East Village on Sunday

Photos and reporting by Stacie Joy

Carnitas Ramírez is celebrating its 1st EV anniversary on Sunday.

The sibling to Taqueria Ramírez, the celebrated Greenpoint establishment, has built an enthusiastic fan base here at 210 E. Third St., just east of Avenue B.

The restaurant received "Critic's Pick" status with a two-star review last fall in The New York Times ... and the paper later named it one of the city's best 100 restaurants.

I recently checked in with co-owners (from left) Yvon de Tassigny, Giovanni Cervantes and Tania Apolinar...
I came back later to catch the fourth owner, Kari Boden...
I asked what these 12 months have meant to them... they chalked this quote up to the whole team, as it's a group effort:
This past year has been a joyful experience; we have created a new family from the people we work with and a new home in the East Village, which has welcomed us with open arms since the beginning. ... With gratitude, we can say that we have done some of the work to bring the best Mexican food to NYC, but there's still a lot to do! And we feel excited about that. It's been a wonderful year, and we are looking forward to many more!
The anniversary afternoon begins at 2 p.m. with a special menu and music...

Extra taco time: Carnitas Ramírez expands its days of service on 3rd Street

Photos and reporting by Stacie Joy

After nearly three months in serviceCarnitas Ramírez is expanding its hours of operation at 210 E. Third St., just east of Avenue B.

Starting this week, the popular taqueria will open on Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 10 p.m., adding on to its existing Friday-Sunday schedule...
In other Carnitas Ramírez news, they are now making their own tortillas in-house.
The
sibling to Taqueria Ramírez, the celebrated Greenpoint establishment, continues to draw crowds and accolades. A few weeks back, in a post about the city's best tacos, Eater's Robert Sietsema wrote: "Carnitas Ramirez is game-changing, with pork options so flavorful and so varied — many virtually unknown in restaurants here — that they almost catapult the place into the fine-dining realm."

Opening weekend for Carnitas Ramírez

Photos by Stacie Joy

Friday marked the opening day for Carnitas Ramírez at 210 E. Third St., just east of Avenue B.

And, despite the heat, there was a line when the doors opened at noon. This is no surprise, as this sibling to Taqueria Ramírez, the celebrated Greenpoint establishment, has an ardent fan base.
The overall consensus from everyone I spoke to was "authentic," "delicious," "they do it right," "fucking epic," and "worth the heatstroke."

For now, Carnitas Ramírez will just be open on Fridays (noon to 10 p.m.), Saturdays (11 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and Sundays (11 a.m. to 9 p.m.).

Greenpoint hit Taqueria Ramírez is opening an East Village outpost

Taqueria Ramírez, the popular spot in Greenpoint that has earned "NYC's best tacos" accolades, is opening an outpost in the East Village.

Owners and life partners Tania Apolinar and Giovanni Cervantes teased the arrival, slated for the summer, on Instagram yesterday (see above).

We can confirm that Carnitas Ramírez will be taking over the former Café Cortadito space at 210 E. Third St. just east of Avenue B. (Café Cortadito owners Ricardo Arias and Patricia Valencia went on to open Cantina Cubana at 17 Avenue B. Read more about that here.)

The Mexico City-style taqueria debuted in Greenpoint in September 2021 ... and later landed at No. 49 in Pete Wells' top-100 NYC restaurants for the Times.

Taqueria Ramírez is the latest Brooklyn-based establishment to cross the river in the East Village... following The Commodore (which opened last evening)... Sauced and, eventually, Win Son Bakery
