Weekend openings: Black and White, Cherry Tavern, Van Da

Two bars that have been closed since mid-March are back for to-go service this weekend.

Black & White will be serving drinks (to take home!) today from the bar at 86 E. 10th St. St. between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue. Hours: 2-6 p.m.

Cherry Tavern is also back in service for the weekend, offering drinks to go from noon to 10 p.m. today and tomorrow at 441 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue.

Meanwhile, Boris & Horton, the dog-friendly cafe on Avenue A at 12th Street, reopened their to-go window back on Monday for coffee and pastries (served only to mask-wearing customers, per their Instagram account). Open until 1 p.m. today.

As a reminder, SMØR, the Noridc cafe a few doors away on 12th Street, reopened on April 22. Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Also! Van Da, the well-regarded Vietnamese restaurant on Fourth Street, is continuing its collaboration with chef Hannah Wong (of the incoming Brooklyn restaurant Haema), for a weekend takeout service.

You can find the Haema-Van Da menu, which changes each weekend, and order in advance via this form. You pick up the food at Van Da, 234 E. Fourth St. between Avenue A and Avenue B from noon to 8 p.m.

Cherry Tavern cherry-free for now

[EVG photo from 2010]

Last July, the Cherry Tavern on Sixth Street between Avenue A and First Avenue turned blue...

And now, the bar has returned to its pre-blue look, though without the cherries on top out front...

No word if they will return to the bar's exterior. The Cherry Tavern opened here in 1975 — happy 43rd summer!

Feeling blue about the Cherry Tavern

[EVG photo from 2010]

The always (mostly!) reliable spot on Sixth Street between Avenue A and First Avenue is now...

Blue — very blue!

Thanks to Goggla for the new paint-job pic!

Buy some art tonight at the Cherry Tavern

The VolaVida Collective is hosting a one-night only art show tonight at EVG favorite Cherry Tavern.

They'll be work on display and for sale from HEKTAD, SFA UNO and Chris Prandy. (Any art that doesn't sell will be available at the VolaVida website.)

This is the first show for VolaVida, formed by East Village resident Kate Ruby Klenfner and her partner Maurice Infinite.

"We're going to have monthly shows. Mostly at Cherry Tavern, but the one in January will be at a big photo studio in Chinatown," Klenfner tells us.

And why the Cherry Tavern as a venue?

"We want to do shows in 'real' NYC spots. The gallery model is dead," she says. "We both love Cherry Tavern, and, if we can help them make money, that would be great."

A to-be-determined percentage of the proceeds tonight will go to the National Fibromyalgia Association.

Oh, and Cherry Tavern is at 441 E. Sixth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue. The show starts at 7 p.m.
