Tonight marks the end of the free music-movie nights in Tompkins Square Park for the summer. This evening's selection: O Brother, Where Art Thou?, the Coen brothers movie starring George ("Grizzly II: The Predator") Clooney. (This was originally rained out on June 20.)
There's also free pre-movie music from The Dapper Dans.
Where did the summer go?

No James Bond tonight; Films in Tompkins series over for the summer
The weather on July 26 forced the cancellation of the free screening of "Goldfinger" in Tompkins Square Park. Afterwards, reps for the Films in Tompkins series said that the James Bond actioner would be rescheduled for tonight.
Unfortunately, that is no longer happening. The rep said yesterday that the organizers have "concluded the series for this summer."
So console yourself with this discussion about Dame Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger" theme song...

Tonight in Tompkins Square Park: 'Pope of Greenwich Village,' permed hair
Tonight marks the sixth of the free music-movie nights in Tompkins Square Park. This evening's photoplay: One we're looking forward to watching in the comfort of our own home — "The Pope of Greenwich Village," starring Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts' permed hair. (C'mon, admit — it is a little distracting, that hair.)
And upcoming...
Aug. 11 — Kickass
Aug. 18 — Rosemary’s Baby
Aug. 25 — The Godfather
Sept. 1 — Stake Land
Here's the official website for the summer movies.

Tonight in Tompkins Square Park: 'Arthur,' plus the moon and New York City
Tonight marks the fifth of the free music-movie nights in Tompkins Square Park. This evening's talkie: "Arthur," the original from 1981 with Dudley Moore. The movie starts at sundown. The Debonairs are the pre-film musical guest.
Then the movie. But first! The guy who hosts this will yell for a bit. And now, the movie. But first! Someone will come up and do a, say, yo-yo demonstration. OK! Just moments away. Now, though — a short film! Here's the director to thank some people! The feature is next! Right after this EPIX ad with Leonardo DiCaprio! Now you guys ready for the movie?!
Anyway! Let's take you back to the prom... and something for all you lovers in the house. Christopher Cross with "Arthur's Theme."

Reminders tonight: A French film in Tompkins Square Park
It's "Love Songs" (Or, "Les Chansons d'Amour") starting around 8:30...
Per the description:
In the hope of rekindling their stalled relationship, Ismael (Louis Garrel) and Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) enter a playful yet emotionally laced threesome with Alice (Clotilde Hesme). When tragedy strikes, these young Parisians are forced to deal with the fragility of life and love. For Ismael, this means negotiating through the advances of Julie's sister (Chiara Mastroianni) and those of a young college student; one of whom may offer him redemption. French (with English subtitles)
And now, for some reason...

'Une Femme est une femme' in Tompkins Square Park Friday night
Or! "A Woman is a Woman" ... Those free French screenings in NYC parks make their way hereabouts Friday evening. "A Woman is a Woman" (1961), starring Jean-Claude Brialy, Anna Karina and Jean-Paul Belmondo, is showing for free Friday evening around 8:30 or so...
Per the description:
To the trailer! (Oh, it's French, so there's some gratuitous nudity!)
And look for "Love Songs" on July 9.
Per the description:
One of Jean-Luc Godard’s first movies, and undoubtedly one of his most playful, "A Woman is a Woman" is a tender tribute to childishness and to American musicals — but with a distinct New Wave flair!

Tonight in Tompkins Square Park: The Graduate
I don't really have anything to say about this. Uh, plastics? And will this be another bag-search-free evening?

Tonight in Tompkins Square Park: Bag searches (oh, and a movie)
More bag searches in store for tonight's movie presentation in the Park?
As for the movie, it's Better off Dead. An American classic. (Oh, c'mon -- just give me this one...)

Batman Begins tonight in Tompkins Square Park
An obvious choice given that The Dark Knight opens Friday. This film series is all well and good. I'm all for free things that can bring the community together. Not to mention I enjoy cheesy Hollywood movies. (Not that the films in this series are cheesy.) Still, I'd appreciate an outdoor movie series showing more obscure mainstream and independent films and/or a showcase for local filmmakers. How about something on the history of the neighborhood, such as Clayton Patterson's Captured?
Anyway, back to Batman Begins...and one more wish: Wouldn't mind seeing another Christian Bale movie instead...
