Full reveal at NYU's expanded Academic Support Center on Lafayette and 4th Street

After nearly 21 months of work, the sidewalk bridge and scaffolding have been removed from NYU's Academic Support Center (the former Tower video space) at 383 Lafayette St. at East Fourth Street...

As Curbed reported in July 2014, NYU was expanding the space, adding a new 4-floor buidling on the land that previously housed the Plantworks garden center for nearly 40 years.

BP station on East Houston and Lafayette closes April 14

A 7-story boutique office building is in the works for the parcel of land on East Houston and Lafayette that currently houses the always-busy BP station as well as the Irish pub Puck Fair.

Puck Fair will close for good this coming Sunday. (The goodbye party is Friday.)

Soon after, the BP station will shut down... officially on April 14...

Per the sign, BP is positioning this as a move... to the existing BP on East 23rd Street at the FDR. (The BP also closed at Second Avenue and East First Street to make way for a new development.)

While the closing date was only recently announced, the closure was a foregone conclusion. In fact, the demolition permit was filed in December 2014, per city records.

As for 300 Lafayette, once completed, the new building will encompass 80,000 square feet of "flagship retail and boutique office" ...

... and take in the unobstructed view of Kendall Jenner at the Calvin Klein wall across East Houston...

Report: Puck Fair closes on March 27

After 16 years, Puck Fair, the Irish pub on Lafayette just south of Houston, will close for good on March 27, Gothamist reported.

Puck Fair and the BP station next door will be demolished to make way for a 7-story boutique office building that will look like...

The farewell party at Puck Fair is on March 25. And the details via Facebook:

Well folks it's with great sorrow that I must break the news that Puck Fair must close it's doors at the end of this month. After 16 years of operation the powers that be are making way for a new development on our corner of Lafayette street.

So come join us between now and then but especially on Friday the 25th of March when we will host our farewell party with drink specials, live music and all the usual things you've grown to expect from us at Puck.

The Puck Fair owners also operate Swift Hibernian Lounge on East Fourth Street between the Bowery and Lafayette.

The BP station has yet to announce its closing date.

Former Jones Diner lot on Lafayette primed for new development

The stretch of Lafayette between Bond and Great Jones is about to host yet another new development.

Catching up to this from the Post last week (h/t New York Yimby) … there's a new commercial development in the works for 363 Lafayette, a long-vacant parcel that partially housed the Jones Diner.

Per the Post:

“They will build something special and unique to bring a cool vibe to the neighborhood,” said Stephen Shapiro of JLL, who along with colleague Richard Baxter represented Olmstead Properties in arranging the 49-year ground lease with extension options.

There is reportedly 32,000 square feet of development potential on this 5,500 square-foot site.

Nearby projects include 10 Bond Street, 372 Lafayette, 25 Great Jones/22 Bond St. and whatever retail tenant that Aby Rosen recruits for the 43-bed shelter for homeless women on Lafayette Street at Bond Street.

10 Bond continues to make other developments look bad

Walking along Lafayette we couldn't help but notice the progress on the 11 luxury residences at 10 Bond Street...

Now a little further along than its luxury neighbor at 372 Lafayette St.

Both buildings made their first appearance above ground in late April. (Compare this to, say, 185-193 Avenue B, which has inched skyward the past 20 months. Or 37 St. Mark's Place, which has taken workers nearly a year to convert a cafe into a vegan ice cream shop.)

Full disclosure: The above photos are from several days ago. By now 10 Bond may have been completed.

These 2 luxury residential buildings are rising very quickly on Lafayette Street

We're used to rather pokey developments around here (185-193 Avenue B, 98-100 Avenue A, etc.). But over on the west side of Lafayette between Great Jones and Bond, the two new projects are racing skyward at a record pace.

There's the 6-floor rental at 372 Lafayette St. and Great Jones ... and the 7-floor 10 Bond Street, which is already getting glassy. (And Curbed reported last month that four of the building's 11 $$$ homes are already in contract.)

These photos are from Sunday. By now residents are probably moving in.

Looking at the future luxurious corners of Lafayette Street

[February 2009]

The west side of Lafayette between Great Jones and Bond will soon be home to two luxury residential buildings… The former tenants of these corners, the ZP Auto Repair Shop and a parking lot, are long gone.

First, allow us a moment of silence for the wall above this space that brought us Harrison Ford's giant head

… and Claire Forlani's disembodied scotch ad hands

[Head bowed]

Anyway!

The new buildings are apparently going up simultaneously … already up to the second level in spots… (these photos are from Saturday)…

There is 372 Lafayette St. …

… and 10 Bond St.

The first units in No. 10 hit the market earlier in the month … Curbed pointed out a 2,775-square-foot home for $6.9 million … and for the more budget-minded, an 1,866-square-foot residence for $5.3 million.

Report: More support for protected bike lane on Lafayette Street/Fourth Avenue

A quick note from the coverage that Streetsblog provided from last Thursday night's Community Board 2 meeting:

In a unanimous 9-0 vote last night, Manhattan Community Board 2′s transportation committee endorsed a DOT plan to upgrade a buffered bike lane on Lafayette Street and Fourth Avenue to a parking-protected lane, complete with new pedestrian islands, car lanes of an appropriate width for the city, and improved signal timing for pedestrians. The plan now moves to CB 2′s full board meeting on March 20.

The protected lane would run from Prince Street up to East 12th Street. The proposal would not remove any car lanes, but instead narrows them on the avenues, per Streetsblog.

Find a PDF of the proposal here. Read the whole Streetsblog post here.

How are we feeling about protected bike lanes these days? Anyone? Comments?

Have you seen the glass tower in the works for Lafayette and East Houston?

So there are BIG plans in place for the busy instersection of Lafayette and East Houston. The property owner has designs on demolishing the bar Puck Fair (ever been? I haven't) and the BP station, as DNAinfo first reported on Monday.

Plans for the 7-story, 60,000-square-foot office-retail space were unveiled Monday night during Community Board 2's landmarks committee meeting, as reported by Curbed.

Here we go.

And! An upclose view...

I just fell off the rendering's balcony.

There are still a lot of hurdles to get this through city planning and all that. Read the details at Curbed and DNAinfo.

Anyway, if it all works out, then these new tenants will have the best views of the Calvin Klein billboard — and its rotating batch of ballsacks and boobs — in the city...
