Original Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches closes in 2nd Avenue A location this year

The Original Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches outpost has closed at 216 Avenue A (the storefront on the right in the pic) between 13th Street and 14th Street. 

The shutter comes nearly seven months after the quick-serve restaurant moved into the space from the SW corner of Avenue A and 13th Street. We didn't hear any reasons for the departure, or whether Nicky's might turn up in another storefront sometime soon.

Nicky's, related to the one that had been on Second Street several years earlier, opened on Avenue A in March 2019.

Original Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches lives on in a new Avenue A location

Last week we reported that the Original Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches outpost on Avenue A at 13th Street closed. That is true. 

However, they didn't leave a forwarding address. Nicky's lives on! Turns out that the quick-serve shop moved across the street to 216 Avenue A, a former spa, as the top pic shows. (Thank you to the readers who mentioned this!) 

The Nicky's signage arrived on that new storefront late last week. 

This marks the third East Village home for Nicky's, which originally debuted on Second Street in 2009.

[Updated] The Original Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches has moved on Avenue A

Updated 5/7: Nicky's has moved across to 216 Avenue A. Unfortunately, there wasn't any notice of a move on the old storefront.

The Original Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches outpost on Avenue A at 13th Street is now out of business... as you can see, workers have cleared out the quick-serve restaurant...

This departure isn't a surprise, as a homemade for-rent sign popped up on the front window months ago.

An Original Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches has debuted on Avenue A at 13th Street... EVG reader dwg shared these photos from last night...





The Nicky's logo matches up to the one that's out on Lorimer Street in Williamsburg.

As you may recall, there once (circa 2009) was a Nicky's Vietnamese Sandwiches on Second Street just off Avenue A. The family that owned the Nicky's then sold the business, and it became Vicky's in 2011.

THEN. Vicky's closed in 2013. THEN! The Vicky's became a Nicky's, but it wasn't the original Nicky's that was here. Then the not-original Nicky's closed in 2015.

ANYWAY. In the process of trying to find out if this outpost is from the folks who ran the FIRST Nicky's on Second Street (as well as the now-closed location on Nassau Street).

The corner space on Avenue A and 13th Street was home to Inkstop Tattoo, which closed last summer after 21 years here. Owner Eric Rignall is now working out of Long Island City.
