Tompkins Square Bar opens at 110 Avenue A

Tompkins Square Bar is now up and running at 110 Avenue A near Seventh Street ... in the space that had been Sister Midnight (briefly) and Black Market.

A reader who lives nearby said the new place debuted this past weekend... while the Bar's Instagram account first notes a Nov. 9 opening.

In any event, there are a few menu items (leftover from the Black Market days?) ... as well as a pool table...

Black Market abruptly closed here in March after seven years. The same ownership then debuted Sister Midnight in April... within a month, brown paper covered the front windows and the menu disappeared. Sister Midnight then advertised being in the downstairs space with the 132 1/2 E. Seventh St. entrance around the corner ... which is also the address of Lovers of Today and previously The Cabin Down Below ...

Sister Midnight debuts on Avenue A

Sister Midnight is now open at 110 Avenue A near Seventh Street...

The owners (Johnny T and Jesse Malin) revamped their Black Market space, which closed on March 12 after a nearly seven-year run serving burgers and oysters.

Here's a look at the menu posted outside...

Sister Midnight is the first track, co-written by David Bowie, on The Idiot, Iggy Pop's debut solo record from 1977.

Calling Sister Midnight on Avenue A

A quick follow-up about Black Market, which closed on March 12 after seven years of serving burgers and oysters at 110 Avenue A.

Ownership is apparently revamping the space near Seventh Street... and, based on the new awning that arrived on Thursday, the place will be called Sister Midnight...

Given ownership's affinity for music (both as musicians-producers and other ventures, such as the Bowery Electric and Niagara with the Joe Strummer mural) ... this is likely a nod to Iggy Pop ... (Sister Midnight is the first track, co-written by David Bowie, on The Idiot, Pop's debut solo record from 1977.)

The portion of the awning with Sister Midnight was taped up by the weekend...
