More bike corrals on the way for East Village businesses

CB3 has OK'd bike corrals (CityRacks!) for two East Village businesses — the 4th Street Food Co-op and Continuum Cycles on Avenue B.

These will be similar to the ones that the DOT installed in front of Mudspot on East Ninth Street back in April ...

Jill Woodward wrote this last week at the The 4th Street Food Co-op blog:

We need the parking because so many of our members and shoppers arrive by bike, and it can be difficult to find a parking place near the store.

The tradeoff is 1-2 fewer spaces for automobiles in exchange for up to 20 spots for cycles. That calculation can result in more business for the neighborhood, according to a recent report by TA.

We also understand that Mudspot and Bluestockings on Allen Street have the go-ahead to expand their current bike corrals... No timelines on when the DOT will install any of these bike racks ... word is early 2013.

Here's the freshly renovated 4th Street Food Co-op

The 4th Street Food Co-op closed for renovations in late September ... and reopened on Oct. 10 ...

Co-op member Catherine Talese tells me that "the renovation was a huge community effort; we're so happy to be reopened and seeing so many familiar friends and faces again."

Here's a look at the space...

The 4th Street Food Co-op reopens today

Our friend Jill Woodward at the The 4th Street Food Co-op passes along word that they will reopen today... "We have a new floor, the interior is freshly painted, and there are other improvements — plus more in the works," she says. "We hope our shoppers will be as thrilled as we are."

The co-op closed in late September for renovations.

The 4th Street Food Co-op temporarily closing for renovations

Here's a message from our friends at The 4th Street Food Co-op:

The 4th Street Food Co-op will be closed from Friday until Sat. Oct 8 (reopen day subject to change) for renovations. We will be replacing our floors and relocating our cooling compressors. More details about the work and re-open dates can be found on our blog.

Please come stock up before Thursday night on dry goods such as bulk rice, oats, nuts, olive oil, and maple syrup, so that we don't have to move as much stuff!
