Now open: USA Super Stores on 3rd Avenue

The USA Super Stores (the store so nice, they named it plural?!) we've been telling you about is now OPEN on the SW corner of Third Avenue and 10th Street. 

This location has daily hours of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. close on Sundays. 

The chainlet of discount stores — grab those McKenzie & Lloyds Danish Style Butter Cookie tins while you can! — have been opening in former Duane Reade outposts this past year (like the one on Second Street and Avenue D).

Perhaps this is ushering in a new era of discount businesses ... joining the soon-to-open Lot Stop on First Avenue near 14th Street ... and the Dollar & More on Third Avenue also near 14th ...

Here's a progress report on the USA Super Stores (yes plural) coming to the former Duane Reade on the SW corner of Third Avenue and 10th Street...

Workers have been filling the space with large displays of items, including Marcal toilet paper ...

We first reported on this pending arrival on Feb. 3. Looks like the place will be open SOON.

USA Super Stores have been opening in former Duane Reade/Walgreens outposts around the city, including Avenue D and Second Street.

This Duane Reade by Walgreens closed in early March 2020 ... several years after expanding and gobbling up several small storefronts, forcing Excel Art and Framing Store and East Village Cheese (which was never the same) to relocate.

Reader report: USA Super Stores (U-S-A!) coming to the former Duane Reade on 3rd Avenue and 10th Street

You may have noticed the paper on the windows at the former Duane Reade by Walgreens on the SW corner of Third Avenue and 10th Street... and maybe the arrival of some boxes and what not inside ...

We've been curious what might be going in here... Record store? Zine shop? An EVG tipster shared the following: This will be the second EV location of USA Super Stores. 

An outpost seemingly came out of nowhere this past November on the NW corner of Houston and Avenue D — site of a former Duane Reade by Walgreens. (There's also a USA Super Stores on the UES — AT A FORMER DUANE READE! PATTERN DETECTED.) 

USA Super Stores have a little bit of everything, from groceries to housewares to clothing — all at discounted prices. ("Cozy Fuzzy Sleep Pants" — $5.99; a 4-pound bag of Domino Sugar — $2.99.) 

No word on an opening date. One day it will just be open!

USA Super Stores debuts on Houston Street and Avenue D

Yesterday saw the GRAND OPENING of USA Super Stores — "Your Friendly Neighborhood Savings Center" — on the NW corner of Houston and Avenue D (address is officially 310 E. Second St. in the retail space of the Adele). 

We'll go back for a walk around the store on another day. (Not at all familiar with this store brand.)

For now, we'll just check out the sale circular... It looks like a solid place to pick up a gallon of milk ($2.99, limit 2) ... a 12-pack of Bounty paper towels ($22.99, and perfect before the next threat of snow flurries) and a Queen Super Plush Micro Mink Blanket ($17.99) ... not to mention a Portable Party Speaker (49.99)... 

Anyway, as you can see, they have a little bit of everything, from groceries to housewares to clothing... all at discounted prices...

This large retail space was previously home to a Duane Reade (RIP November 2019).
