A seasonal Urban Etiquette Sign on 7th Street

An EVG reader passed along this photo of an Urban Etiquette Sign on Seventh Street between Avenue B and Avenue C... a sensible request not to throw firecrackers ... they scared the note-writer's dog... and are a potential fire hazard, she writes.

On this Urban Etiquette Sign, grease is the word

Goggla spotted this Urban Etiquette Sign on East Fifth Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue...

"Do Not Sit on the railing of the tree guard. Your weight bends the planter holder.

As a deterrent the railing has been coated with grease."

To which someone responded, "You are a freak."

You are in the East Fifth St. Tree Committee territory here. Please act accordingly. And keep your butt off the tree guard!

Urban Etiquette Sign (Box Edition) of the week, so far

Spotted on East 10th Street and Avenue A by @themikeschreiber ...

It reads, in part: "Who took this box + opened it & took the contents out is a fucking theif [sic]. We need our stuff back. Return to Brindle Room!!"

Not sure if the contents were ever returned. The box is now being used as a discarded holiday wreath dispensary.

A memo from the NYC Department of Pedestrian Etiquette

EVG reader Katherine spotted this memo in the front door of a building along East Seventh Street… on official (heh) NYC Department of Pedestrian Etiquette...

Per the sign:

Effective April 1, 2016 all new residents and visitors to New York City Over the age of 16 will be required to take a mandatory training session on Proper Etiquette for navigating the sidewalks and streets of the greater metropolitan area.

And?

Upon completion of training, applicants must then pass an oral and practical exam in order to qualify for a NYC DPE Pedestrian Permit. Any mistakes will result in denial of permission to enter the city for a period of no less than one year.

Click on the image for what the examples of the violations might include… "stopping on a bike path with a big group to take pictures of squirrels" …

Messing with the hydrangeas prompts sharply worded Urban Etiquette Sign on East 7th Street

Spotted in a building on East Seventh Street…

To the low-life, bottom-feeder who saw fit to cut the blossoms of the hydrangea plant in the back yard: May you contact a painful disease, and you suffer mercilessly! You are sub-human.

Your fellow tenants

Today in Urban Etiquette Cat Signs

EVG regular OlympiasEpiriot spotted this sign on East Ninth Street at Avenue A…

"Please keep your cat inside. It has been coming into our backyard harassing and fighting with our two backyard cats and eating all their food. If the cat continues to come here we will have no choice but to call the ASPCA."

The B Bar's Urban Etiquette Sign about their neighbor's trash

A rather amused EVG reader on the Bowery points us to this sign on the building next door to the B Bar.

To the tenants of this building
Please only put your garbage out on the days it is scheduled to be picked up. Do not put your garbage out over the weekend … The garbage on the street is unsightly and unsanitary.

Stern, but a reasonable enough request! Maybe!

The reader then pointed out the B Bar's own unsightly mound of garbage bags yesterday morning near East Fourth Street waiting for private pickup…

Avenue A wants its sidewalk back

The New York Sports Club opened at 28 Avenue A back in early March... and the space outside here between East Second Street and East Third Street ...

... remains a work in progress... drawing the ire of at least one person (or more) asking for the release of the sidewalk...

H/T to @fnytv for alerting us to the signs on Saturday.

A Wind Chimes of East 7th Street postscript

[Last week]

Last Friday, an East Seventh Street resident shared the above Urban Etiquette Sign about some apparently noisy wind chimes on the block.

Given how annoyed some neighbors were about being kept up by the wind chimes ... it's likely not a surprise that there's more sign activity.

A resident passed along this sign postscript with us...

"Buy an oscillating fan and hang the darn WIND CHIMES in your own bedroom!"

To be continued?

Hop Devil Grill says to have some Respect here on St. Mark's Place

[Click on image for a better read]

An EVG reader points us to an Urban Etiquette Sign on the door at Hop Devil Grill at 129 St. Mark's Place near Avenue A.

It reads in part:

Keep your voices down, keep your drinks inside, and in general treat this sidewalk like your mom's porch.

The people who live above your head have lived here for many years and deserve to enjoy peace and quiet while we all enjoy our party.

When you disrespect the tenants of this building you disrespect our business, our employees, and our neighborhood.

Have some common decency and keep yourself under control while outside the building.

We love you and want you to have a blast. Just do us a favor and do it in a way that doesn't ruin the night of the people who make this neighborhood awesome.

In a strong wind, these wind chimes on 7th Street are keeping residents awake

An East Seventh Street resident shares this Urban Etiquette Sign with us.

The original sign maker left this message:

"Your wind chimes in a strong wind, sound like an incessantly ringing doorbell with the power to awaken one from a deep sleep."

And it certainly must be loud, as two other residents chimed (sorry!) in with their own handwritten comments, including one from that person we all hate to be but must at times: "that cranky neighbor."

A festive Urban Etiquette Sign for the holidays

Spotted on Avenue A via Shawn Chittle…

Please close the door behind you. (Safer for all)

(and call the landlord to remind him)

Love the decorations. Thanks.

Bonus points for the fine use of parentheses…

Big word alert: From the front lines of the Avenue B brunch war

An EVG reader noted the arrival of sidewalk graffiti outside bonkers brunch spot Poco on Avenue B and East Third Street …

Per the reader: "I had to look up the word but sums it up about right. Haha."

Also…

…there's a similar message across the Avenue outside Mama's Bar…

One fed-up neighbor describes Poco as a "horror show."

"Poco is constantly crowding the sidewalk, and attracted people from many different areas to come and have a free-for-all of drinking and not realizing that we actually live here," the neighbor said.

Poco's website advertises that it has the "Best boozy brunch on the island."
