Rake Wine debuts on 3rd Street adjacent to Urban Wine & Spirits

Photos by Stacie Joy

Rake Wine Bar is now open on the SW corner of First Avenue and Third Street.

Vinicius Aboin (above) co-owns the space with Jorge Arias, who operates Urban Wines & Spirits on the corner ... which you can keep an eye on from the cafe...
Aside from Aboin, EVG contributor Stacie Joy met managers/bartenders Ian Garcia (left) and Elbert Giron ...
As we mentioned back in December, Urban Wine & Spirits was opening a small wine bar — via a separate entrance on Third Street — in the shop's new corner space.

According to Rake's website, the cafe "is inspired by the many small 'mom and pop' wine bars that are located throughout Europe."

There's a food menu with a variety of bruschetta, fresh bread, olives, and meats and cheeses. The space accommodates about 20 people, with a few sidewalk tables weather permitting. There are plans for events such as wine tastings as well.

The hours: 5-10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 2-11 p.m. on Friday; 1-11 p.m. on Saturday; and 1-10 p.m. on Sunday.

Coming soon: Rake Wine Bar on 3rd Street

Signage is up for Rake Wine Bar, coming soon to the SW corner of First Avenue and Third Street.

As we mentioned back in December, Urban Wine & Spirits was opening a small wine bar — via a separate entrance on Third Street — in the shop's new corner space...
Rake has a space on the Urban Wine & Spirits website for future updates.

Jorge Arias, a partner in The Sampler in Bushwick, opened Urban Wine & Spirits on First Avenue in March 2014.

The shop debuted in the corner space in late December, a few steps north of the previous spot.

The new Urban Wine & Spirits is now open

Urban Wine & Spirits — going now as Urban Artisan Wine & Craft Spirits — has debuted on the SW corner of First Avenue and Third Street ... steps away from the shop's previous location... (thanks to Marjorie Ingall for the photos!)
As previously noted, a wine bar is also in the works for the storefront... ownership says that the wine bar, set to debut in the spring, will have a separate entrance on the Third Street size.

Meanwhile, the shop will be hosting tastings and events once it's safer to do so.

Jorge Arias, a partner in The Sampler in Bushwick, opened Urban Wine & Spirits here in March 2014.

Wine store hours: Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with an 11 p.m. close on Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday hours: noon to 9 p.m.

Signage arrives for the new Urban Wine & Spirits

Workers yesterday installed the awning/signage at the new home of Urban Wine & Spirits at the SW corner of First Avenue at Third Street. (Thanks to the reader for the shot!)

The wine store is 30 steps away from Urban's current First Avenue storefront. No word on an opening here just yet. (Updated 12/26: The new shop is open!) There will be a wine bar-cafe opening here in the spring... and it will have a separate entrance on Third Street.

The new-look SW corner of 1st Avenue and 3rd Street

From the EVG tipline... the plywood came down yesterday on the southwest corner of First Avenue and Third Street... providing a look at the renovated storefront.

As previously reported here, a cafe "specializing in small, handmade wines" is in the works for the space from the owners of Urban Wine & Spirits a few storefronts away.

Over the weekend, workers removed the pretty exquisite Exquisite Cleaners signage from the southwest corner of First Avenue and Third Street as renovations continue here.

Wine bar in the works for this former dry cleaners on 1st Avenue

Work continues at the former Exquisite Cleaners, where a wine bar is in the works here on the southwest corner of First Avenue and Third Street.

Jorge Arias is on this month's CB3 SLA committee agenda Monday evening for the unnamed bar "specializing in small, handmade wines." (This item will not be heard in front of the committee.)

The questionnaire (PDF here) on the CB3 website shows that the space will have five tables for 30 guests and a six-seat bar. The proposed hours are noon to midnight daily.

Arias operates several like-minded businesses, including the Wine Hut on Sixth Avenue and, closer to home, Urban Wine & Spirits a few storefronts away.
