Step right up....

A good day for Zoltar ... though he did pick UMass to cover the spread against Wisconsin.

Zoltar's cozy new arrangement

Well, what do we have here outside Gem Spa...? A New York Lottery "Play Center" is now stationed directly next to Zoltar... picking lottery numbers adjacent to the Great One who tells fortunes and accurately predicts the future? We're guessing Zoltar's daily income is about to go through the box.

Zoltar still sees a ball-less future

[Photo by EVG reader John S.]

Remember when Zoltar had a ball outside Gem Spa? (A crystal ball.) Ever since that unfortunate skateboard smash job last month, he has been without a ball. (Goggla was first to note this!)

How are we expected to trust his vision of the future without a crystal ball? Yesterday, he gave me a fortune that read "ignore the previous fortune."

(Shh! Zoltar is working again)

Be gentle.

And I took a Vine of him TALKING LOUDLY this morning right here.

Doomed DOOMED

Officially at a loss now here outside Gem Spa.

Day 7 without Zoltar

Still out of commission outside Gem Spa ... hope fading...

What the hell, Zoltar?

What's this outside Gem Spa? Wait why is.... AHhhhhhhh!

Just when we thought Zoltar was back in business after the unfortunate skateboard bashing... As Bobby Williams discovered, Zoltar is back on the DL alongside Jeter, Granderson, Teixeira ... everyone on the Knicks older than 38 and taller than 6-8 ...

The magic is back: Zoltar feeling like a glass act once more!

Yes! Workers fixed up Zoltar today outside Gem Spa ... after his front panel was bashed by a skateboard this past Friday... thanks to Marjorie Ingall for the photo. Can a great deal of good fortune be ahead?

Earlier today ... looking so vulnerable...

Zoltar, among the hats

Zoltar late this afternoon, waiting for team Zoltar to repair his broken glass (and heart).

Zoltar still sees a glassless future in the East Village

As we reported yesterday, a group of youths apparently and/or allegedly smashed Zoltar's glass outside Gem Spa on Second Avenue and St. Mark's Place. East Village Hawkeye heard that Zoltar would be repaired last night.

However. When we stopped by this morning to ask Zoltar who the Giants would take in the first round of the NFL draft (D.J. Fluker? Chance Warmack?), the machine was still out of commission. Someone did clean up the broken glass from inside his perch.

In the meantime, we do like the street-sign shadow on the back of Zoltar's box.

Update: Zoltar will be repaired.... tonight!

Ace photographer East Village Hawkeye has more about the sickening vandalism of Zoltar outside Gem Spa. Via Facebook:

The owner told me that the glass would be fixed tonight. He may have security camera footage of the crime. Nobody working there gave me any description of the vandal(s).

In other developments, a good question via Twitter:

And Tom Hanks has been informed.

Speaking of Zoltar and "Big" (you know, the movie) Scouting New York had a post a few years ago about the Zoltar scene at the end of the movie... which took place at Rye Playland. Read that post here.

Breaking! Breaking! Zoltar is broken! Broken!

Actually, Zoltar was vandalized! Word is that some "homeless kids" purposefully smashed the Zoltar glass with a skateboard yesterday and ran.

More. Much more! To come.

As word of this crime spreads... friends and followers are sending their regards...

There are unconfirmed reports that Mayor Bloomberg will cut short his weekend trip to Bermuda to address the situation here.

Tomorrow is Opening Day at Coney Island, where Zoltar is only $1

Coney Island has its grand opening tomorrow... the Cyclone, Luna Park and Deno's Wonder Wheel Park are all set to reopen ... this after millions of dollars in Hurricane Sandy-related repair work and upgrades.

Our friends at Amusing the Zillion have been carefully documenting the opening-day developments. Find more details on rides and restaurants here ...

Per ATZ:

The amount of activity far exceeds anything we’ve seen in past years because of the extra added work of recovering and rebuilding from Superstorm Sandy. Even though Palm Sunday, Coney’s traditional opening day, is early this year, the great majority of the rides, games and eateries are ready to open.

Sandy KO'd Deno's Wonder Wheel Park's Zoltar. But! There is a new one...

And, as ATZ reminds us, the Coney Island Zoltar is only $1, as opposed to the $2 Zoltar outside Gem Spa.

Speaking of Zoltar... here's a shot of our own Zoltar this morning ... flashing some jewelry and his carefully placed flute, as always...

Zoltar apparently no longer sees all

This morning on Second Avenue and St. Mark's Place... What happened to his halting "I see you ..."?

Religious zealots target Zoltar again

As you can see, someone has slapped a sticker across Zoltar's name here outside Gem Spa... AGAIN. (See here.)

"Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on everyones [sic] soul."

Unfortunately in America today, fortune teller machines do not enjoy the same freedoms as everyone else, and find themselves at the mercy of religious extremists. Or, at the very least, the target of people brandishing "Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on everyones [sic] soul" stickers.

'Come on over and let Zoltar tell you how cold it is'

And it will only cost you $2. Second Avenue and St. Mark's this afternoon via Bobby Williams.
