A bike rack bike theft?

EVG reader Cheyenne shared these photos from Avenue B and Ninth Street, where thieves apparently didn't bother with trying to clip a lock ... and cut the bike rack instead...

More bike racks for Second Avenue and East 9th Street

A few weeks after the city installed new bike racks on (and around!) Second Avenue and East Ninth Street, EVG Second Avenue and East Ninth Street Bike Rack Correspondent Terry Howell notes the arrive of several more (bike racks).

And here's a bonus photo of trucks double-parking near the other new bike racks yesterday morning... (not that the bike racks caused this, of course...)

Today in bike rack news that we pretty much should have covered 2 weeks ago

Where were we? Oh! Bike racks, an immensely popular topic here. EVG regular Terry Howell notes the recent arrival of bike racks on Second Avenue at East Ninth Street ... and East Ninth Street at Second Avenue (pay attention!)...

How's it going so far? Per Terry:

"The one on 2nd Ave. is used primarily for the corner deli delivery crew. This rack also has the marvelous effect of forcing delivery trucks to doublepark IN 2nd Ave. most mornings with the usual horn-honking results."

Still, the more bike racks the better, right?

New bike racks seemingly randomly arrive

These just arrived along Avenue B between East Sixth Street and East Seventh Street (maybe for the Gruppo delivery guys?) ... Dave on 7th, who took this photo, also noticed a new rack on Avenue A. Anyone else spot new bike racks around the neighborhood...?

Another mysterious bike rack removal at Astor Place

EVG reader 8E points out the arrival of "no bike parking" tags this week near the Alamo on Astor Place... the signs note that the city has scheduled to remove the bike racks tomorrow...

Similar signs also appeared in July 2012... and that turned out to just be a temporary removal ahead of a Summer Streets activity here. Nothing else so sinister. (Of course, some people find Summer Streets sinister.)

So. What now? Is the city finally ready to break ground on the new pedestrian space here?
