Table 12's sidewalk cafe debuts

Many thanks to EV Grieve reader Project Chow (@projectchow) for passing along word that Table 12's sidewalk cafe has debuted on 12th Street and Avenue A...

Per the CB3/SLA, The sidewalk cafe must shut down at 10 p.m.... and they can set up again at 8 a.m.

With this addition, though, part of Chico's Kool Bloo sign was painted over ... Project Chow has some before and afters too... (thanks to @chufucious)

Westville East still looking to add a sidewalk care; calls out "mean-spirited neighbors"

Last week, the CB3/SLA committee denied Westville East's request to add a sidewalk cafe... As The Lo-Down reported, the sidewalk cafe license was rejected "on the grounds that Avenue A is already overburdened with bars and late night crowds."

Tonight, the full CB3 will apparently hear their case...signs up in the window at Westville on Avenue A and 11th Street explain what's what... they also call out some "mean-spirited neighbors..."

Pulino's pulls it back off the Bowery

All this week I noticed that a handful of tables had made their way onto the sidewalk outside Pulino's on the Bowery...

Tuesday!

Wednesday!

...and Thursday! No more tables on the sidewalk...

What gives? No sidewalk permit?

Pulino's tables inch toward the Bowery

I swear these tables are about an inch closer to the street than they were the day before...

At this rate, the tables should be in the street by, say, August.

Will "The Smurf Movie" give The Bourgeois Pig any ideas?

Last night, "The Smurfs Movie" came to life on Seventh Street between Avenue A and First Avenue... and The Bourgeois Pig had a starring role... at least the fictitious sidewalk cafe that was put up by the crew for the scene... in which lead Neil Patrick Harris exited a cab and walked into 111 E. Seventh St. next door... However, given how the sidewalk cafe looks, will the Pig brass get any ideas about opening their own now...? Would this get ok'd by CB3?

The crew set up the tables very early ... around 6:30 a.m. yesterday...

Best sidewalk cafe from which to start your own restaurant

As we exclusively reported, it will be sunny and warmish-for-March out today and tomorrow. Which means many people will be taking to sidewalk cafes for eats and drinks and stuff. And there are many fine sidewalk cafes hereabouts ... and many of them make it awfully easy to borrow something from a table while walking by...as if management thinks they're operating somewhere other than a huge city....

To our continued amazement, nothing beats Gemma at the Bowery Hotel for pure potential lawlessness... Management really makes it tempting to borrow a table setting or two... At certain parts of the day, things are left unattended...

We've walked by so many times that, by now, we could have enough stuff to open our own restaurant... (patrons not included)

And we'll be charging $32 for the scrambled eggs. Not that we approve of serving $32 eggs ... or borrowing stuff from restaurants -- best to leave the stuff alone.
