Fast-casual bowl alert: Sweetgreen opens today on the Bowery

[Photo last week by Lola Sáenz]

That new outpost of Sweetgreen that we mentioned a few times (here and here) opens today (Jan. 14) at 347 Bowery.

Sweetgreen has opened nearby outposts on Astor Place and University Place in recent years.

The fast-casual restaurant is the first retail tenant in the ground floor of No. 347, the Annabelle Selldorf-designed 13-story luxury building that features five stacked town homes here at Third Street.

Update: Sweetgreen does accept cash.

Sweetgreen status check on the Bowery

As we first noted on Aug. 12, Sweetgreen is setting up in the retail base of the 347 Bowery condoplex.

This is the first business for this corner space at Third Street ... and as these photos from Friday via EVG regular Lola Saénz show, this outpost is a ways off from opening...

The California-based chain recently boosted its valuation to $1.6 billion.

Fast-casual chain Sweetgreen bringing the salads and bowls to the Bowery

The ever-expanding Sweetgreen chain is opening a location at 347 Bowery. Signage for the line-inducing fast-casual restaurant is now up in the windows here at Third Street...

This marks the first retail tenant in the ground floor of No. 347, the Annabelle Selldorf-designed 13-story luxury building that features five stacked town homes. In early 2018, signage arrived for Pilotworks, which was planning a "culinary incubator" for its food businesses to sell products. Those plans never materialized as Pilotworks tanked in the fall of 2018.

Sweetgreen has opened nearby outposts on Astor Place and University Place in recent years.

Sweetgreen opening in former University Diner space

Stepping away from the neighborhood for a moment... signage is up on the corner of University Place and 12th Street for another NYC location of Sweetgreen, the healthy quick-serve restaurant that offers various custom salads and grain bowls, etc.

This corner was home for 60 years to the University Diner, which closed in 2012 over a reported hefty rent increase. Gunz Fine European Food — an upscale chocolate shop and market — arrived in 2013 and left a few years later.

Sweetgreen opens today on Astor Place

As we first noted back on June 30, a sweetgreen is coming to Astor Place... and today is the opening day, per a sweetgreen rep.

Here's more about the quick-serve restaurant that offers various custom salads and grain bowls, etc., from their website:
Founded in 2007, sweetgreen is a destination for delicious food that’’s both healthy for you and aligned with your values. We source local and organic ingredients from farmers we know and partners we trust, supporting our communities and creating meaningful relationships with those around us. We exist to create experiences where passion and purpose come together.

This marks the brand’s 11th location in the city, per the sweetgreen rep.

Sweetgreen opening on Astor Place

Work continues at 10 Astor Place between Broadway and Lafayette... where the signage arrived this week for another NYC location of Sweetgreen, the healthy quick-serve restaurant that offers various custom salads and grain bowls, etc.

No word yet on an opening date for this Sweetgreen. The company has plans to expand in NYC with at least four new locations citywide.
