Sutra has closed; big sports bar on the way
Sutra Lounge closed for good after last night ... the club at 16 First Ave. went out with a VIP bash...
Sutra, owned by Community Board 3 member Ariel Palitz (who is also a member of CB3's Liquor Authority & Department of Consumer Affairs Licensing committee) put up signs explaining the closure last month or so...
Coming next here between East First Street and East Second Street — a big sports bar from the owners of Murray Hill's Mercury Bar and Tonic East. Expect at least 12 TVs, as BoweryBoogie reported in July, when CB3 approved the new license.
Palitz first put Sutra up for sale in November 2011, as we first reported. She is now rumored to be part of the new quinoa bowls and juice bar and club combo that is the Mars Bar reboot.

A new bar from the owners of Tonic and Mercury Bar? Get ready for a dollar shot special, salmon panted douche festival that will stain the neighborhood with vomit and date rape!!!
Whooooooooooo!!!!!!
How is Sutra allowed to be on a board granting and denying liquor licenses and liquor license renewals? Conflict of interest, no?
ugggh. sports bar are the blight of the EV, they make money for the owners why the nearby residents must put up with constant yelling (cheering and wooing) patrons outside smoking and talking loud or vomiting. I would quickly lose my mind if I had to live within earshot of one of these bars. My sympathy to its neighbors.
Its like how Hubert Selby described the way towns on the mississippi in the 1800's were run by the gambling interests - towns where literally 50% or more of residents made their living from gambling. I haven't done the actual math, but probably 50% of businesses in the e vil are involved with drug dealing I mean alcohol sales, so nothing changes, the ruling interest look out for themselves.
she never left venueadvisors. Gigi take a stand.
Ugh, the day the neighborhood went down the toilet was the day the first sports bar opened. Soul killers.
Like " A love letter to New York" Who writes this crap? (4th pic)
