An EVG reader shared this... No Malice Palace, the bar on Third Street just west of Avenue B, remains closed...
It turns out that bar owner Phil Sherman died right before Thanksgiving 2016...
A note by the door and on the bar's Facebook page (on Jan. 12) note they will reopen "as soon as all legal formalities are completed and ownership is transferred."
The building, No. 197, hit the sales market in March 2016 for $7.5 million. According to public records, it sold to Northstar Properties last summer for $6.3 million. The seller is listed as an LLC c/o Simon Baron Development Group.
According to the original listing, No Malice Palace has a lease through December 2019. The bar opened in 1999.

That place has been a fucking horroshow the past few years, I don't know why they are clinging to it after Phil's death. All it does is bring in loud, moronic and violent morons by flyering events on weekends. It is not even allowed to be anything but a restaurant as per its liquor license!
They won't be reopening. Sister was bought out- apartments are being gutted.

I just found out of Phil's passing. I was one of the original patrons to go to his bar and befriended him. I would like to and my friends who knew him back then, would like to pay respect to Phil and to his family. My contact is muleroveronica@gmail.com

I am sad to hear of Phil's passing. He must've been a great person. No Malice is my favorite place in New York. I've had so many memories and birthdays here over the years. What I love about it is the diversity. I have never been to a place where people from all different backgrounds all come together to have a good time. I have NEVER tipped a DJ any where else other than NMP. Please bring it back soon. If not, I am grateful for the memories.
